5 Ways to Wear your Favorite Summer Fashions in Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

If you are like me, you love summer clothing. However, there is a price  to wearing short shorts and tank tops: unbearably humid days, the constant feeling of sticky sunscreen residue on your skin and hours of hoping and praying for a five second breeze. Basically, we’re over summer.  But how are you supposed to keep your summer style with the impending chills of fall? Make like Hannah Montana–you can have the best of both worlds!

1. Cardigans

The cardigan is underappreciated yet, essential player in your wardrobe.  Think of a cardigan as an accessory and the possibilities are endless.  Warm up your favorite sundress or shirt-and-shorts combo with a classic black cardi, or add some pizazz with a vibrant color or pattern.  If you are looking to invest in one, stick with the basics – black, navy, gray or maroon – as they can be paired with almost any outfit and serve as great accent pieces!

2. Tights

No more summer usually means no more skirts. Or shorts. Or dresses. Fear not, tights are our saviors! Tights everywhere – wear them under your shorts, skirts and dresses.  Choose from classic black, sparkly nudes, bold opaque colors, patterns, and even knit ones for those extra chilly days.

3. Scarves

Pulling off scarves in the summer is an art form, but for fall it is as simple as throwing on your go to coat.  Make use of all your summer dresses by pairing them with a knit or infinity scarf.

4. Socks with Sandals

Hear me out on this one.  One of Summer 2014’s major trends was the minimalist heel/sandal.  We also saw a comeback from the classic jelly sandal.  The subtleties of minimalism are the keys to pulling off this look.  Simply put, don’t overkill.  Pick a chunky platform instead of a strappy heel.  Keep the color of your shoe and socks fairly neutral, unless you are feeling really daring – then go for a fun print!

5. Oversized Sweaters

Why would you not want to wear something so soft and chunky you feel like you’ve been enveloped in a hug all day?  Another layering piece for shorts, skirts and dresses – slip one of these on for a casual and comfortable look.
