It’s been several weeks since Auburn Athletics hired Coach Bruce Pearl to replace Tony Barbee as our men’s basketball coach, and even though the season is far off he has already begun making his mark on the plains.
Bruce Pearl led the Tennessee Volunteers to a #1 ranking in 2008, the first in the history of the university, and did a lot of good for their basketball program before he left the team in 2011. On March 18th, it was announced that Pearl would be getting back into the game to help pull the Tigers basketball team out of the downhill slide of recent years. We all know that there’s only one direction from the bottom, and it’s projected that Pearl will be taking us to the top! Numerous sports outlets have predicted an incredible 2014-2015 season, and have even named Gus Malzahn and Bruce Pearl as the most dominant duo in college sports. With a title like that, how can we not be sure to win?!
Coach Pearl has done a lot since trading in his hideous Tennessee orange for the lovely shade we wear around campus, from participating in Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy dunk tank to being apart of the A-Day festivities. He even purchased pizzas for those who attended his press conference back in March! On Monday all of the coaches were out on the concourse to help encourage students as we head into finals, and Bruce was more than happy to pose for picture and wish everyone luck with a hearty “War Eagle”. He may not have been a member of the athletic program for very long, but it’s more than clear that Coach Bruce Pearl is very much a member of the Auburn family!
