Congratulations, collegiettes! If you are reading this, chances are you’re done exams (or are procrastinating instead of studying for your last ones)! I’ve already headed home after my exams, and stoked for what the summer has in store!
Here are some great dates to remember over the summer!
The Two-Fur
Otherwise known as ‘the 2-4,’ May Long Weekend, or Victoria Day for those who prefer to be politically correct!
This is an awesome weekend where most people hang out with family and friends, enjoy a good BBQ, some great mocktails or cocktails, and more often than not some live music—whether its your cousin who only plays “Wonderwall,” or a crowded concert! Feeling spontaneous? Take a road trip with some friends!
Canada Day!
Get out your red and white face paint, hair dye and that tacky decoupage ballcap you made at summer camp when you were seven.
This day is the one day of the year where we’re allowed to be obnoxiously patriotic and drink in public (responsibly and legally of course)!
Throw your own Canada Day party in your backyard or have a sun-up to sun-down beach party with food, sports and the water! Most cities in Canada have fairs or fireworks too, so make sure you know what is going on in your city!
FUN FACT! Fredericton made the Top 19 Cities to spend Canada Day in, as voted by readers and writers of Today’s Parent last year! Make sure you’re at this year’s celebration!
August Long Weekend! (AKA the Civic Long Weekend, or New Brunswick Day)
There are many reasons why we celebrate on the long weekend in August, the most important being we need another long weekend before Labor Day, but also to celebrate our province! Luckily, there are toms of events going on for New Brunswick Day this year! Stay tuned to the Fredericton Tourism website to find out!
Here’s some tips to keep you having fun all summer long!
– Sunscreen! Every two hours and at least an SPF of 15!
– Drink tons of water! Your body will thank you!
– Watch your drink! No matter where you are or who you’re with, you want to stay safe!
– Learn your area’s laws about fireworks, and make sure you have someone who is responsible and sober setting those babies up. They can do a lot of damage if they’re not set off properly.
– Stay up late, but don’t let yourself get burned out!
– The boys may be cute, but remember your girls! They stuck with you through the year and they’ll stick with you through the summer.
– If you meet a boy, be safe and be smart! Don’t let anyone pressure you into something that you aren’t ready for. Summer lovin’ is great, but not everyone’s going to make a musical out of theirs.
– Remember that your summer job is important! You can’t sleep in or skip out on it! You’ll start bad habits that will stick with you forever.
– That being said—it’s okay to say no. Don’t take on too much with work, internships or even your social life.
