If you’re one of the thousands of people who tuned into the season finale of Scandal Thursday night, feel free to geek out on all the best moments with me in just a few moments. If you missed it, however, this is FULL OF SPOILER ALERTS so go back to BuzzFeed, Pinteretst, 2048, or wherever else on the internet you probably spend all your time.
That said here’s the top ten most important things you need to know from the finale!
1. The bomb went off. The explosive (pun intended) season finale of Scandal started right off with the Maya Pope planted bomb exploding at the church, but not before all the Senator’s funeral attendees were cleared out, including – much to the dismay of Cyrus Bean – Vice President Sally Langston.
2. Olivia and her dad – a.k.a former Command – had what seemed to be a sweet father daughter moment that made everyone saw “aww!” but, of course, there’s more behind Mr. Pope’s motives than what’s on the surface. (More on that later.)
3. Huck and Quinn “establish” their weird relationship. I’m personally a big fan of Huck despite his obvious – let’s call them – “character flaws”. Quinn however always manages to screw everything up and leave a trail of “whoopsies” all over Washington DC. I’m sure you can guess how Huck and Quinn made their relationship official in the OP&A offices, but I’d like to keep my writer status for HerCampus Bentley intact, so I’m not sure I can accompany this one with a gif.
4. Olivia took the reins on the whole Mellie / “Big” Jerry incident and told President Fitz what his father did to his wife while he was in the Governor’s seat, and Fitz finally realized why she had been the way she was for all these years. Of course this shocked him, and for a few moments Fitz seemed to actually care about Mellie again, but soon followed it up with yet another Vermont phone call to Olivia.
5. We find out that the aforementioned intentions of Papa Pope were just as bad as we (and Olivia) should’ve known. As it turns out, all of season three was just Mr. Pope’s trying to get Olivia out the picture, which is now complete. We don’t know exactly know why he wants her totally gone, or how there can be a season four without the main character, so a bit of a cliff hanger there.
6. Olivia takes off into the Washington sunset in the private plane arranged by her dad with – shocker – Jake in the seat next to her. As pretty as Jake Ballard is, Olivia admitted to being in love with President Fitz earlier in the episode, so I’m not seeing a happy ending to this one.
7. After Quinn received documents from her scorned/creepy now ex-boyfriend, Charlie, citing the whereabouts of Huck’s real family, Quinn – like always – feels the need to get into everybody’s business and take Huck there without telling him what the big surprise was. C’mon Quinny-Cakes you’re better than that! (Seriously though, what a burden she always is.) Anyways, at the ending section of the episode, Huck sees his wife he had to leave for B6-13 so may years ago.
8. There was a big old “whoopsie” moment that probably happened a few years ago when Fitz agreed to have Tom be on his security team, because Tom (actually from B6-13) sorta kinda killed his son right before Fitz’s final campaign speech. Poor little Jerry. This incident did however garner enough sympathy from Americans to win President Fitz a second term.
9. Jake gives David the secrets to B6-13. Ahh, David. Sweet, sweet David Rosen. The one guy on the show who literally seems to lose every time may finally be getting his big break. All US Attorney David ever wants to do is serve justice to the bad guys and do the right thing. Unfortunately, this pretty much happens…well, never. With B6-13 shut down at the moment, and Command Jake Ballard on the get-away flight with Olivia, David now has his shot to take down the bad guys once and for all. Go get ‘em David! You do matter!
10. One of the final moments in the episode was a shot of good ole Mrs. Pope siting alive in the detention hole at B6-13 after Mr. Pope told Fitz he had killed her. I have a feeling she won’t be staying there long, but for now it’s nice to see her in, as BuzzFeed called it, “her rightful place.” Couldn’t agree more!
With Olivia and Jake on a flight to who-knows-where, the happenings of this fall’s season four are totally up in the air. (Get it?!)
Anyways, seasons one and two are on Netflix, and the rest of the episodes can be found on ABC’s website if you think you may have missed something.
‘Till next time, gladiators.
