Music Festival season is finally here! It may be the one time a year when it’s completely appropriate to wear every single friendship bracelet you own, walk around with only 5 inches of your body being covered, and not fully shower for a few days (no ones counting). Music festivals let you bring out your inner Hippie vibe that’s been in hibernation all winter. So here’s a cheat sheet to some of the grooviest concerts that are in store for this summer. Namaste.
Bonnaroo – June 12-15
Brb, I’m busy pitching a tent in Tennessee saving my spot for this indie-chic Music and Arts Festival. At Bonnaroo, not only are there choice bands performing, (Vampire Weekend, Skrillex, and Wiz Khalifa to name a few) there’s also an enormous amount of other activities to choose from while you wait for your favorites to get on stage. Between a water-slide race titled “Splash-A-Roo” and the Bonnaroo Cinema where you can watch top comedians crack jokes, you’ll have to schedule in time to apply sunscreen!
Hangout Music Fest – May 16-18
A music festival on the beaches of Gulf Shores has us itching to be out of Kent and its unpredictable snowstorms. Bikini on, shoes off, relax on the beach and enjoy artists like The Black Keys (Akron’s best bragging right),Tegan and Sara, and Jack Johnson. Another plus: authentic, fresh seafood will be available round the clock. Fried shrimp and lobster po’ boys? Don’t pass that up.
The Governors Ball – June 6-8
Any excuse to go to New York is a good one. The lineup includes The Strokes, Foster The People, and Wild Belle. The food includes local eateries such as Ports coffee, Little Muenster grilled cheeses, and Num Pang gourmet sandwiches. Governors Ball is the perfect place to nosh and jam at the same time.
Firefly Music Festival – June 19-22
Located in the mystic Woodlands in Delaware you’ll be awed to find a festival consisting of 4 Days, 100+ bands, and 7 stages for performances. The “cabin in the woods” theme comes complete with rustic resting spots and a trail map to help you find your way to the different stages. So sit by the fireflies and enjoy the rhythmic sounds from Imagine Dragons, Band of Horses, and The Lumineers.
Rock on the Range – May 16-18
If you’re a little more hardcore and a little less free-spirited, this music fest is perfect for you. Not to mention if you’re from Ohio, it’s conveniently located in Columbus. Bands like Guns N’ Roses, Kid Rock, and Rev Theory will perform, and cans of Monster (a sponsor for the event) are likely to be consumed by the dozen. Interesting side note: the event takes place at Crew Stadium, home of the Buckeyes! Save a guitar pick for us.
