Featuring a sassy attitude and deserving confidence, On A Sensual Note (OASN) is the only all-male acapella group at American University. Their dreamy voices and signature matching ties make heart’s flutter all around campus and around D.C. Senior Jimmy Scimecca joined OASN first semester freshman year and was elected president in the fall of 2013. During his time, OASN has performed at the Cherry Blossom Festival, the White House, for the Secretary of Labor, Henry Waxman’s wife, and Disney World during spring break 2014. Her Campus American sat down with the men of OASN and got the scoop.
Her Campus American: What is the most difficult part of being in OASN?
Jackson Bedbury: “Oh it’s a big time commitment.”
Carter Lowe: “I think it’s difficult having so many beautiful gentleman around us. It’s hard staying focused sometimes.”
Antonio Miller: “Managing the time spent on something that we love while staying focused on our respective studies is difficult.”
Aaron Douglass: “It’s like herding cats.”
HCAU: Besides being all male, how do you differentiate On A Sensual Note from other acapella groups?
Carter Lowe: “We rehearse the most, we are the most active, and the most visible. We are extremely performance focused and we want to give an On A Sensual Note experience.”
Antonio Miller: “Aside from being a club, we are a professional group in D.C. and we try to keep that up.”
HCAU: What’s the group’s catchiest/ favorite song to perform?
Morgan Lyons: Come on Eileen!
HCAU: What big events does OASN have planned next?
Jimmy Scimecca: We have a Final concert April 28. Everything else is to be announced. Check out the website.
HCAU: Why did you all decide to join OASN?
Charlie D’Orlando: “I never sang before in my life and I decided to audition. I wanted to try something new.”
Jimmy Scimecca: “I did theatre in high school and I still wanted to do some sort of performance gig. So I found out about OASN on YouTube. I just remember them doing a lot of pelvic thrusting and I had to be part of that. They are sweet and salty at the same time.”
Jeff Giantonio: “I came to tour AU and my tour guide mentioned that they do Tuck-Ins for sororities and that sounded great! So then I found them on YouTube and watched every single one of their videos. I auditioned as soon as possible.”
