This week’s Campus Celeb is sophomore Jenna Sulecki, a Public Relations and Advertising major. She’s originally from Erie, PA and is a member of the Campus Activities Board’s Public Relations and Special Events committees (she’s typically the one in the pineapple costume!). Along with her involvement in CAB, she enjoys singing and blogging about theatre and different shows and says, “I like critiquing everything.” Her Campus Point Park decided to interview Jenna to learn more about the upcoming CAB/Fashion Club “Styling Soiree” on campus this week.
HC: What is your part in the fashion show?
JS: The fashion show is a joint effort between CAB and the Fashion Club, and I am the chair of the event on CAB’s side of things. CAB’s marketing team has come up with great advertisements and promotional events, and the Special Events committee has organized other activities for the event as well as handled decorations.
HC: What would you say the main goal of this event is?
JS: There are two main goals of the Styling Soiree. The fashion show is meant to be an educational experience that shows students how to dress confidently and appropriately for various occasions. It is also a way for the Fashion Club to get some well-deserved publicity. We are raffling off some of the clothing shown in the show and all proceeds will benefit the Fashion Club.
HC: When and where is the fashion show being held?
JS: Thursday, April 17 from 6-9 PM in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom.
HC: Why should people come out and show their support?
JS: This is going to be a really fun event, and both CAB and the Fashion Club have put a lot of effort into making this is great event that anyone can enjoy, including guys! The fashion show will feature looks for five categories for both girls and guys: internship looks, event wear, date night, street style, and campus looks. Lots of really cute pieces (including a vintage Dior tie!!!) will be raffled off. One ticket is $1 and a forearm’s length of tickets is $5. All proceeds help The Fashion Club put on more events like this in the future. There will also be best-dressed contests; anyone interested can sign up outside the cafe from 6-9 April 14-16. People will also be able to get their headshots taken for free and hear Miss Laurel Highlands, Caroline Collins, speak on the importance of dressing correctly for different occasions. The creator and owner of Stocking Noir will also be speaking and will be available for networking.
HC: How did you come up with the idea?
JS: Alex Perry, the Fashion Club’s event chair, and I got to talking one day about how cool it would be to work together on an event. CAB had been wanting to do something like a fashion show for a while, and with the Fashion Club’s help, we were finally able to make it happen.
HC: What was the best and worst part of planning/having such a large role in this event?
JS: The best part was being able to learn more about fashion and event planning. Being a part of CAB gives one numerous opportunities for leadership, and this was absolutely one of the biggest tasks I’ve taken on. It’s very rewarding to see how the event has come together, and I’m very excited to see how it turns out. There really isn’t a “worst part” of this because it has been so much fun, but it has been a lot harder than I expected! There are a lot of little planning details that you never think about until late in the game and that can get frustrating.
HC: What advice do you have others who want to do something with fashion?
JS: Join the Fashion Club! Those girls really know their stuff. Many of them have modeling experience or have great connections in the fashion world and would love to pass along their knowledge. They meet on Tuesdays in the Lawrence Hall 4th floor lounge at 9 PM.
HC: Anything else you’d like to add?
JS: If you’re interested in joining CAB, stop by the CAB office on the first floor of the Student Center to learn about all of the different committees and when they meet!
