Campus Cutie: Laura Bloch ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

Name: Laura Bloch

Hometown: I’m from a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio called Bexley.

Major(s): I’m an ECE major with a Linguistics Minor

Year: Senior

Involvement on campus: President of Women in ECE, member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, dancer in Dancers’ Symposium (this will be my sixth semester in it).

Relationship status: Single

Ideal date place: I can’t think of a specific place, but definitely somewhere outdoors.

Favorite food: Chocolate.

Celebrity crush: Channing Tatum’s pretty hot.

Favorite movie: Anchorman. 1 and 2.

Three words that describe you: Quirky, extroverted, passionate

Qualities you look for in a guy: Easy-going, funny, laid-back, athletic…smart; I’m not looking for a genius but I need to be with someone intelligent enough to have interesting conversations with.

Biggest accomplishment so far: I keep wanting to mention one of my projects from school, but honestly the accomplishment I’m proudest of is being a team captain at the summer camp I used to go to every year. It was really amazing having everything come full circle from when I was a camper looking up to the staff who were my captains.

Biggest life dream: To love my what I do and love the people in my life.

Favorite trait about yourself: I really like that I’m extroverted. I used to be pretty self-conscious, and of course I still have my insecurities, but I like that I have the confidence to put myself out there and just be myself.

Female role model: Sophomore year I made up this slogan as a joke: What Would Sara Roy Do? But honestly, she’s someone I really look up to a lot. She knows exactly what’s worth thinking about and what’s worth letting go. She has a really good head on her shoulders and knows how to relax and just be happy.

If you could have one superpower, it would be: I’m going to sound like a huge nerd but it would definitely be the ability to apparate.

How do you think girls can be powerful? I think women can be powerful by not defining themselves as women. Powerful women are not powerful just because they’re women, and they’re not powerful despite the fact that they’re women, they’re just powerful.

Why do you think it’s important for girls to be powerful? Just as it’s important for men to be powerful, we have to be able to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in, and also for others who may not be as powerful.

I am a junior Materials Science and Engineering mjaor at Carnegie Mellon University, and I am also minoring in Professional Writing and Business. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  I love TV and trying out new beauty products.  I follow E! on Twitter so that I can stay up-to-date on celebrity news.  I'm royal-obsessed, and I love Kate Middleton's style.  I'm kind of a Sephora addict, and I could easily spend hours there.  I also spend way too much time on Pinterest.  Finally, I love hockey and all Pittsburgh sports.
