It’s that time of year again, Pitt students! After a very dreadful winter, April has finally arrived, which means stressing over final papers, projects, and exams. On the bright side, the weather is finally starting to warm up, which means it’s almost summer! April also indicates that it’s time for Bigelow Bash. For those of you who don’t know, Bigelow Bash is a free concert organized by the Pitt Program Council that takes place on Bigelow Boulevard, between the Cathedral and the William Pitt Union. This event will be taking place on April 13th at 1:00 p.m. and Timeflies is headlining it!
Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick are the two members of Timeflies. They officially formed this duo in 2010 after they were in the same band at Tufts University. They’ve come a long way since then and now have multiple EPs, CDs, and mixtapes. Their new album After Hours will be released on April 29th! They are also known for their YouTube channel, where they post a “Timeflies Tuesday” each week. These videos consist of covers/remixes of songs, acoustic versions of their original songs, or freestyle rapping. To prepare you for Bigelow Bash, here are a few that I suggest you listen to:
1. “Under the Sea” – This is such a fun twist on a classic Disney song!
2. Any acoustic version – I absolutely love listening to acoustic versions of songs! Cal has such a smooth voice and my favorite one is “I Choose U,” but they’re all great.
3. “Pompeii” – I love the original version by Bastille, but these guys do a great job covering it. At the end, they also add a little bit of “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood and it flows so nicely.
4. “Wagon Wheel” – Even if you’re not a country music fan, you can still rock out to this remix.
5. “We Can’t Stop” – This is one of my favorite songs to listen to while working out. It’s such a fun pump-up song!
I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do and make sure to check out some more of their music before Bigelow Bash! Opening for Timeflies will be Misterwives and The Mowgli’s. Let’s all hope for a beautiful day to welcome these talented artists to Pittsburgh.
