Actress, star of Parks and Recreation, ex-SNL cast member, Golden Globes host, and all-around awesome lady Amy Poehler is not only talented, but also a great role model. She should be every Collegiette’s #WomanCrushWednesday, and here’s why:
First of all, did you know she was born and raised right here in Massachusetts? And she’s a Boston College alum—talent and brains!
And if you weren’t already aware, she’s hilarious! From Baby Mama and Blades of Glory to Saturday Night Live and Mean Girls, Amy never fails to make us laugh in any role that she plays.
On top of that, she’s a great role model for young women. Her character Leslie Knope on NBC’s Parks and Recreation promotes a powerful female image. She stands by her beliefs, works hard to achieve her goals, and doesn’t let the negativity of others get in her way. She’s enthusiastic and does work that she loves to do, no matter how thankless the job is. She is empowered and inspired by female figures of authority and values her friendships more than anything. If you don’t watch the show already, I highly encourage you to do so! It airs Thursdays at 8:30PM on NBC.
Amy also started an online organization called “Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls” – where she encourages young women to be their authentic selves. The site’s motto is, “Change the world by being yourself!”
What a gal, what a message! And that’s why our #WomanCrush is Amy Poehler.
