Name: David Gillingham
Year of graduation: 2014
Major/concentration: Physics and math major
Relationship status: Single
Favorite place to study: 4th floor of the lib, by the booths or the comfy chairs.
Favorite food: A steak grilled by my Dad is tough to beat. And ice cream for dessert.
Favorite movie(s): Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Toy Story, Back to The Future, The Princess Bride, The Blues Brothers… I’ve probably watched too many movies.
Hobbies: Playing guitar, trumpet, and violin. Exercising, reading, watching movies, kayaking, hiking, camping, listening to music.
If you could pick one actor to play you in a movie of your life, which actor would you pick and why?: In a perfect world I’d say a young Harrison Ford, since I grew up idolizing the characters he played. Indiana Jones and Han Solo were some of the most important people in my life for a long time. But I should probably be played by Steve Carell or Jason Bateman.
What’s your favorite building on campus and why?: Steensland. I’ve always wanted to go inside and see what’s happening there. It’s a St. Olaf-themed Hardy Boys mystery waiting to happen.
Favorite sports team?: My Packers and Badgers.
What did you do for spring break?: Ole Spring Relief in central Illinois. This was my first time going, but I had friends who had done it before and loved it.
Describe yourself in one word: Gregarious
Call or text?: Phone Calls, Skype, Texts, and even Snapchats have their place. Use them so that you can have more face-to-face interactions with people you care about.
What is your ideal date?: Doing something adventurous, after I make breakfast. I’ve gotten pretty good at making eggs and/or waffles, and I could do bacon, fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee. After that we’d go horseback riding, scuba diving, backpacking, climbing or something like that. Maybe scuba diving and an outdoor candle-lit dinner would be a good combo. Then we could snuggle up with a warm blanket and watch a movie, stargaze, or sit by a fire, and fall asleep or something.
Finish this sentence: A girl looks her best when… She’s doing something that she loves. People say that all the time, but I think it’s true for anybody. If you’re doing something that you’re passionate about, you’re going to look good.
What do you want the ladies of St. Olaf to know?: You’re beautiful in every single way, and words can’t bring you down.
