Looking for a casual place for a lunch date or even a girls’ night out? Look no further. The Grilled Cheese Eatery is fun, relaxing, and absolutely delicious! After opening their doors only a few months ago, The Grilled Cheese Eatery has quickly become a hot spot for Fairfield undergrads. The former home of the French bistro, Café Lola, was completely reinvented by owners Ivanina and Henri Donneaux into their take on classic American comfort food and dining. This charming new restaurant, located on Unquowa Road near the Community Theater, provides its customers unique and creative sandwiches with a modern flare.
While customers still have the option to enjoy a traditional grilled cheese with “The Kid”, some of our favorites include “The California” with brie, fontina, turkey, avocado, tomato, and apple on grain bread, “The Frenchy” with ham, gruyere, béchamel sauce on country white, and “The Trophy” with gruyere, short ribs, truffle oil, caramelized onions, and mushrooms on sourdough. To compliment your meal, the menu also offers a variety of homemade soups including three types of tomato soups, an entire “Create Your Own Salad” section for those looking for a healthier option, and another one of our favorites, specialty fries including rosemary, parmesan and gruyere-truffle oil. Yum!
Not only is the food amazing, but also the atmosphere makes the overall experience of The Grilled Cheese Eatery even better. From the second you walk in, you instantly fall in love with the charm and decor. The friendliness of the new restaurant shines through in the bright red and yellow color scheme, accented with cow print upholstery on the booths and colorful phrases printed on the walls such as, “to Brie or not to Brie” and “eat.” Overall, with a menu offering as many yummy choices as theirs, The Grilled Cheese Eatery gets an A+ in our book and is a must-do on your weekend to-do list!
