Looking back on my college experience, there are some things I would change. Out of my four years here, freshman year is definitely the most painful to reflect on because, let’s be real, we all make mistakes during our first year of college. Here are some things I wish I could go back and tell my freshman year self.
Â
1.    It’s not worth trying everything in the dining hall.
You’re only going to end up disappointed and uncomfortably full. Your hips will not thank you later.
2.    Take advantage of having SIs.
From the standpoint of a senior, it sucks when your classes don’t have nice, approachable, smart people to help you with any question you could possibly have.
3.    FOCUS.
It’s hard to do, especially during your first year of college with so many changes happening in your life.
4.    Eating ice cream with breakfast, lunch and dinner is not ok.
Just because you’re free to eat whatever you want doesn’t mean you should.
5.    Go through formal recruitment.
It’s a great experience and helps expand your horizons, especially as a freshman when you’re still finding your place on campus. Get ready to exercise your smiling muscles! :)Â
6.    Don’t worry about people who don’t matter.
It’s self-explanatory.
7.    Go to sleep.
When you’re up late at night working on homework or studying, procrastinating will only make you stay up later. Get off Facebook and get some rest.
8.    Boys are not worth the tears, nor are they worth any friendships.
You’re still young, so if it doesn’t work out with that guy you met during orientation two weeks ago, I think you’ll be ok.
9.    Go to class.
It’s easy to lose motivation when you’re not under the thumb of your parents, but don’t let it stop you from doing well in school.
10. FOCUS.
Sometimes it takes telling yourself a couple of times over to get it through your head.
11. Chill with the drinking.
Sometimes there can be pressure within certain friend groups to go out and drink whenever possible. As much fun as it can be, you need to give your mind and body a break every once in a while. Instead of going out to celebrate being done with your week, switch it up. Go out to a nice dinner in Little Italy then follow up with a movie and lots of popcorn!
12. It’s ok to be homesick.
Things move at such a fast pace in college, it’s understandable that you might end up missing the simplicity of living at home; having your parents do and know everything is something we have to get used to living without. Also, being away from family and siblings for so long after living with them your entire lives is hard, but that’s what Skype is for!
13. FOCUS.
Third time’s the charm!
