Campus Cutie: Madeeha Hashmi

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.
This week, HerCampus interviewed a dynamic 4th year student, Madeeha, pursuing an English degree here at Queen’s. Read on to find out more about her!

Q: What has been the best experience that you’re going to take away from Queen’s?

A: For me, the best experience at Queen’s has been the instant camaraderie I have felt with any other Queen’s student upon meeting them for the first time. Queen’s is such a unique post-secondary institution because it manages to sustain a strong sense of tradition and community even though it is such a large organization. I am happy to say that even in my fourth year, I am always meeting current Queen’s students and alumni with whom I become fast friends because of this sense of oneness that all Queen’s students tend to feel with each other.

Q: What is your favourite colour and why?

A: I don’t really have a favourite colour, but my wardrobe would tell you otherwise. I wear a lot of black, perhaps because, for me, it is a dense enough colour to express anything and needs no embellishment.

Q: What was the biggest disappointment at Queen’s that you’ve faced?

A: Although this is not the case for the majority of Queen’s students, in my time at Queen’s, I have witnessed insensitivity and ignorance towards minority groups on the basis of race, culture, religion and other factors. As a group of young, intelligent  people, I think it is important for us to be more socially aware of the people we share our community with.

Q: Write a quick two three line poem about cats.

A: Please accept this woeful excuse for a haiku:

When the cats love me
I cannot return their love
I am allergic

Q: What makes you different than anyone else?

A: Throughout my undergraduate degree, which I will complete after my final exams this April, I have not had a single drop of coffee.
