As busy Collegiettes trying to juggle classes, clubs and other activities, it’s difficult to find time to spend with our significant others and best friends. We’re expected to get A’s and B’s in our classes while having a social life. Most weeks this proves to feel almost impossible. It takes time and practice when trying to figure out a good balance for it all. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about working on our relationships and we pour all of our focus into our studies. But it’s important to remember that our friends and SO’s are the keys to our sanity more often than not.
That’s why Nicole Young and UMass Student Activities and Involvement have planned “Date Night 2014.” They’re asking everyone to gather your best friends or SO’s and head over to the Student Union on Thursday, March 6, from 7PM to 10PM. It is now FREE (despite what the flyer says) and will be a great way to break out of the normal routine. There will be lots of events for you, your SO, and your friends to participate in.
“One of the reasons we wanted to host it is because we don’t know if students have the time to actually spend quality time with their significant others or best friends. We want to create an event that will be just that,” said Young. The Student Activities team realizes that going to movies and nice restaurants with your SO’s can get really expensive really fast. If you don’t feel like spending too much money, cuddling for movie night in your dorm room with your besties can be great, but after two weeks of doing the same thing, it can get a little boring.
The UMass Ballroom Dance Team will be holding dance lessons for anyone who wants to get their rumba on. Shake it all the way down to the Commonwealth room from 7-8PM and let them help you learn to shine on the dance floor like the star that you are.
After you’ve worn yourself out from all of that moving and grooving, take a stroll through the Student Union Art Gallery, open from 7–8:30PM. The gallery has given private access to those attending “Date Night” so be sure not to miss out on some truly amazing and talented artists!
From 8-8:45PM you will be able to try some of the delicious food and desserts being offered in the Cape Cod Lounge. While snacking, enjoy the singing talents of the Vocal Suspects, singer/songwriter Danielle Laroque, and the writing talents of poet Jessica Sanon. It’ll be even better than dinner and a show!
To end the night, check out the screening of “The Wedding Singer” at 8:45PM, starring funnyman Adam Sandler and Hollywood cutie Drew Barrymore. Cuddle up with your SO or lounge around with your friends and enjoy the questionable 80s hairstyles that hopefully won’t be making a comeback.
What are you waiting for, Collegiettes? Get your tickets online at http://umass.universitytickets.com or wait and grab a ticket at the door. Go ahead and put down that book, close that laptop, call up your favorite people, and head to the Student Union on Thursday. It’s time to take a little break and de-stress.
