Remember when you really needed a killer blue tank to go with those newly purchased jeans, but just couldn’t find one within the depths of your closet? Sure, you could take the trip to M Street, weaving in and out of crowded stores, searching feverishly for that singular item. The prices would probably be a tad questionable (because, let’s be real, we are in Georgetown) but at the very least you’d have what you wanted.
But what if there was an easier –and way cheaper- way to solve this problem?
Welcome to the world of Unwritten, an online consignment store tailored specifically to college students. Founded at University of Maryland, Unwritten has quickly gained popularity, increasing its inventory and expanding upon its website with blog posts and articles revolving around the triumphs and frustrations of boys, school, and fashion (the long lost sister of Her Campus Georgetown, perhaps? :) ) Luckily for us, Unwritten is now expanding to the Hilltop, ready as ever to help with extreme fashion emergencies.
With current online websites, such as Tobi and Nasty Girl, Unwritten is joining the ranks of the glamorous world of online shopping; however, Unwritten operates in a unique way that makes it especially attractive for college students, particularly within its convenience and affordability.
Monica Nolasco, director of the Unwritten Georgetown branch, says “We all have that one shirt or pair of shoes that’s been hidden away at the back of our closet since last semester. It’s time we stop telling ourselves we’ll find that one event to wear it to and do something about it. Unwritten is a chance for college girls to sell any clothing, shoes, or accessories that they no longer want or need. We price the items below the retail price, according to the designer, condition, and style, and the seller receives 50% of the profit once the item has sold. It’s an easy way to make money while cleaning out your closet, and a great way to online shop without breaking your bank account!”
Unwritten follows a simple procedure that any girl at Georgetown can follow. Beginning February 28th, the Unwritten Georgetown website will officially be ready and available for full use! Here is how it works:
1. Pick out any old or unwanted accessories, clothing, or shoes that are in good condition.
2. Make a consignment appointment on www.shopunwritten.com, where a member of the team will come to your dorm/apartment at your convenience to personally collect your items.
3. Once your items have been sorted through, you will be provided with an explanation as to which items Unwritten will sell for you and how much they will sell it for according to industry standards.
4. The team then styles and photographs each item to be placed on the site for customers to purchase.
5. Sellers receive their part of the profit once the item is sold, and customers will be hand delivered her Georgetown item that same day for free!
*As a side note, Hoyas can shop UMD items, as well. You’ll just need to pay a small shipping fee!
There you have it, ladies! Get ready for February 28th, because this is one opportunity you don’t want to miss!
