How To: Prepare for Parade Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Binghamton students are getting hyped up this week for Saturday’s upcoming Parade Day! What better way to celebrate the first day of March (aka Justin Bieber’s birthday) than with wearing green, drinking all day, and spending the day downtown with friends? For many people, including myself, this will be their first Parade Day, and for some they are seasoned pros. Either way everyone can use the week leading up to this big day with some tips to prepare for what’s about to come.

1. Stock Up On Green

You don’t want to wake up on Saturday morning and realize that nothing in your closet is green so make sure you have the proper attire for Saturday! Before you start sweating that you don’t know where to find anything green, hit the BU Bookstore! Having school colors that are green and white puts us at an advantage that we can be both festive for Parade Day while showing our school spirit!

2. Do Your Homework/Studying Before Saturday!

If you’re going to be drinking all day on Saturday, don’t expect that you’re going to wake up on Sunday morning wanting to be productive. Chances are you’ll be taking Advil and waiting on your dining hall’s grill line for an egg and cheese to cure that horrible hangover you’re definitely going to have. Take this week to be productive and take Sunday to relax before getting back to the gears of school on Monday. Also, remember that many midterm exams and assignments begin next week and saving all of your studying and work for the weekend when you definitely won’t want to do it is going to hurt you in the long run!

3. Make a Plan

The girls at Her Campus 100 percent support you in getting drunk on Saturday, however, be smart about it. You don’t want to be “that” friend in your group that needs babysitting before 12 pm. If you’re going to be pregaming, then drink a ton of water in-between shots. When you’re at the bars, don’t forget that in between ordering drinks, you can order a water (FOR FREE) You have all day and all night to drink, space out your drinks so that you can be responsible while still having fun.

4. Dress Warm

Just when we thought the polar vortex was leaving, it was nice enough to come back! Make sure the green gear you’re wearing is something that will keep you warm! I don’t mean to sound like your mom but since it is cold outside, if you don’t dress properly, you can and most likely will wake up with a cold and a cold won’t mix well with that hangover on Sunday morning. Remember that once you’re out you can always remove layers but you can’t add so play it safe and dress warm!

5. Have FUN

Parade Day comes to Binghamton once a year so have fun! Even if you don’t drink and green isn’t your color, definitely go downtown and check it out even if it’s just for a little. Maybe you’re a senior and have yet to see Parade Day- this is your chance to witness it one last time before you graduate! Maybe you’re a freshman or a transfer student who is afraid of what downtown will possibly look like on Saturday but curious. Let your curiosity get the best of you and go check it out with your friends! Everyone says Parade Day is one of the greatest days of the spring semester so enjoy it!
