The Best UK Summer Music Festivals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

Last week saw many of 2014’s summer music festivals release at least a taster of their line ups. Her Campus Lancaster is here for you with a round-up of any announcements you might have missed.

Reading and Leeds Festival

Arctic Monkeys join Blink 182 on the bill leaving just one headline act left to be announced. Also announced for this heavy-weight festival were The 1975, The Courteeners, You Me At Six and WarPaint. See the full line up so far here http://www.readingfestival.com/line-up  [pagebreak]

Latitude

Latitude’s line up seems to be shaping up nicely with the addition of Tame Impala and Bombay Bicycle Club. This will be an exclusive UK festival appearance by Tame Impala. The eighties legends Hall & Oates also join Two Door Cinema Club, Royksopp & Robyn, Haim and Billy Bragg. The rest of the weekend’s acts can be seen here http://www.latitudefestival.com/line-up  [pagebreak]

Bestival

The eagerly anticipated fancy dress theme this year was announced along with the first wave of acts. Rob da Bank is hosting Outkast, Foals and Beck on his desert island disco themed weekend. London Grammar, Disclosure, Major Lazer, Laura Mvula, Chvrches and Clean Bandit are also heading to the last festival of the season.  http://www.bestival.net/  [pagebreak]

Isle of Wight Festival

Kings of Leon are to be the Sunday headliner for The Isle of Wight Festival. They are in good company with Biffy Clyro and Red Hot Chilli Peppers taking to the stage on the first two nights. Festival goers will be treated to Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, John Newman, Swim Deep and Travis throughout the weekend but my favourite announcement has to be Dappy. All together now “Na na naaai!” http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/   [pagebreak]

The Parklife Weekender

Snoop Dogg (not Snoop Lion?) takes the top spot at Parklife along with indie favourites Foals. The two day festival will also host Katy B, Bastille, Rudimental and Disclosure. They’ve also managed to grab a UK festival exclusive from Kendrick Lamar. http://www.parklife.uk.com/lineup.php    [pagebreak]

Wireless

Wireless had two treats for us last week. Along with their huge raft of acts they also announced that the festival is expanding to become a two site event. In the same style as Reading and Leeds and V Festival, the acts such as Kanye West, Bruno Mars and Drake will now also play at a second site in Birmingham. Outkast, Ellie Goulding, Pharrell Williams and Rudimental all take supporting slots. Basement Jaxx play on the Friday – one of my favourite ever festival performers. http://www.wirelessfestival.co.uk/    [pagebreak]

Download

Last week’s announcement included American Head Charge’s first UK festival in seven years and Killswitch Engage’s only European festival this summer. Skindred, Seether and The Pretty Reckless join the already announced headliners: Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Aerosmith. Throughout the weekend fans will also be treated to The Offspring, Fall Out Boy and Alterbridge. http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/line-up/poster
