We all know what it feels like to see flawless looking skin in magazines and wanting instant results when we start using new products to achieve that. I’m going to let you in on a little secret, the key to using new products for your face is patience. It seems like there is something new every day to instantly clear our skin and make us look fabulous!Â
When I first started worrying about my skin, it was overwhelming to distinguish between the available products. At that point I wasn’t aware that having a skin care routine was ideal or that there were specific products for specific skin types. My journey to clear skin ended once I found the right product and gave it time to work.
Skin Routine
Skin care, for us in our early twenties is different than what it will be like a decade from now. According to Dr. Heidi Waldorf, a New York Dermatologist we need to really protect our skin from sun damage.
- Wash face with gentle foaming cleanser.
- Light moisturizer for day use.
- Put on sunscreen. Many moisturizers have sunscreen included in the product but sunscreen is necessary for all parts of our body.
Note: You may use a light moisturizer at night but only use it if you need it. The use of too much moisturizer can also lead to negative effects.

Skin Types
In order to cater to your skin type, you must first know which you identify with.
- Dry: if you find that your skin is flaky
- Oily: your t-zone, from your neck, nose area, and chin; is oily
- Combination: your skin is oily in some areas and dry in others
- Sensitive: after using products your skin becomes irritated or itchy
- Normal: balanced skin with the occasional or rare breakout

The products that I chose to include in this guide are affordable and they work! Staying away from products that are rough against you skin or using lemon to clear your skin is key. This causes irritation and damages your skin.Â
An alternative to consider is the oil cleansing method. Using olive oil, coconut oil, and many other oils on your skin balances the amount of oils your body naturally creates.
When you over clean your face, your body produces more oils that lead to breakouts and other reactions. This method also helps those with oily skin. Your body produces less oil when using this method.Â
