Ah, snow. We love to hate it, and hate to love it. In Pittsburgh, the experience of snow is inevitable every winter, and with the unexpected “Polar Vortex” taking our city by storm recently (no pun intended), we’ve been given a few snow days! So what is there to do in your dorm room when it’s too snowy and cold to leave? Here are some ideas to get your creativity flowing!
Study:
I know, it sounds crazy, right? However, snow days can actually end up being a blessing in disguise. It’s an opportunity to study for that huge history test next week, or just to brush up on some readings from your classes. Although it sounds dreadful, make a cup of hot cocoa and snuggle up with a blanket- your grades will be happy!

Make phone calls to friends & family
: Whether you live 5 minutes or 5 hours from home, nothing beats picking up the phone and calling your loved ones. Use that time to reconnect with some friends you went to high school with, or just to see what your family is up to! Your friends & family will appreciate the thought of calling, and it’s heartwarming for both ends of the line.

Invite friends from your dorm community over:
If your campus is snowed in, invite some friends from your floor or other dorms over to play board games, chat about campus gossip, or watch movies! Better yet, if there are recreational activities available in your building, challenge each other to a ping-pong tournament or a game of pool! Break out the chips and fizzy drinks!

Re-organize your closet
: This can be a good opportunity to clean up the mess in your room you’ve been procrastinating, or to get a head start on spring-cleaning. Be creative with it; are there any DIY shelves or closet accessories you can make with items around you? Cleaning and re-organizing your space is an activity to keep you occupied and keep you feeling good about getting something productive done!

Get crafty:
One of the best things to do when you’re bored during a snow day is to do crafts. Make paper snowflakes to hang around in your room, knit, paint, or make jewelry!
