Did you know that the Bucknell women’s basketball team has won the past three games in overtime, and that they are all huge fans of Karaoke Night at Applebee’s? As co-captain of the team, Audrey Dotson reveals her pre-game rituals, her future goals, and what it takes to be a part of her herd at Bucknell. Keep reading to learn more about Audrey and to see what the team has in store for this season!
1) Where did your love for basketball begin?
I started playing basketball in 2nd grade and have loved it ever since. My Dad always liked helping me get better by shooting around with me in my backyard and my Brother also played, so it turned into a family sport pretty quickly.
2) What rewards and challenges have you faced as captain this year?
Being a captain this year has been great so far! I’m so honored that the team chose Shelby and I to represent them and I try really hard to make sure I am doing that to the best of my abilities. The team is so hard working and determined which makes my job really easy, so I haven’t had too many difficult challenges this year. In high school I wasn’t a very vocal player, so I guess the most challenging thing for me is to make sure I stay vocal and continue to talk to everyone on the team on and off the court. But overall this position is really rewarding and I’m so proud of the team and how we have done so far this year.
3) What is in store for the rest of the season?
I try not to think too many games ahead of where we are in the season, but I am really excited about how we will do overall this year! We have shown a ton of resiliency against some very tough teams in our conference, and if we come out and work hard each game, I think we will be very pleased with our results. Obviously though the goal is to win a Patriot League Championship and go to the NCAA!
4) What is special or something everyone should know about the women’s basketball team?
Something interesting that some people on campus may not know about us is that we have hit four buzzer beaters to go into overtime and win games in the past three games! We like to keep things exciting. Also we are huge fans of Karaoke Night at Applebee’s :) embarrassing but true.
5) Will your future include basketball? How will you take what you learned on the court into the next phase of your life?
I’m not really sure what my future holds as of now. I love basketball and it has always been a huge part of my life, so I’m going to be really sad to give it up when I graduate. If I receive a great opportunity to keep basketball in my life then I will definitely consider it, but as of now I don’t know what the next few years hold. Regardless of whether I keep playing basketball or not, I will always love the sport and will take what I learned from my experience into the workplace and other aspects of my life. Being able to work with teammates, with a coach, and the ability to manage time efficiently are valuable assets to have in life and thankfully basketball as taught me how to do all of those things.
6) Do you have a famous basketball player you would like to meet?
Over winter break, my team and I went to a Wizards vs. Mavericks game and I was able to see Dirk Nowitzki play, which was really cool. I would really like to meet him if I had the opportunity.
7) Favorite warm up song?
I wouldn’t really say I have one “favorite”, but one of favorites on my playlist right now is “Take Me Home” by Cash Cash.
8) Good luck charm?
No good luck charms, but I always have to take a power nap then drink coffee before a game or I can feel a difference in how I play.
9) Besides Sojka Pavilion, where is your favorite spot on campus?
Besides Sojka, my favorite spot on campus is probably the comfy chair room in the library. I love how comfortable they are and how quiet it is up there!
