If you have not had the chance to walk around the Nott this winter, you will soon with the start of winter term. I try to avoid walking around the Nott at all costs because there is a monstrous wind tunnel that encompasses it. However, if I am stuck and must truck through the wind to get to Reamer, these are the five items I know I want to be wearing:
1. Warm boots. Boots are imperative to surviving not just around the Nott, but for winter in Schenectady. The days can get extremely cold (just last week, the low got down to minus six) and the snow starts to build up, so warm winter boots are a must. My personal favorite boots are my L.L. Bean boots, and they are essential to my wardrobe.Â

3. A hat. In the winter, a lot of heat is lost through your head, so when walking around the Nott or around campus, wearing a hat will keep you warm. For those of you who say, “I don’t look good in hats,” then I would suggest investing in a knitted headband to at least prevent your ears from freezing. Or you could just buy this adorable chevron checker hat from J.Crew — your choice.Â
4. A big knitted scarf. Having a scarf is necessary because it protects your neck and chest from the cold. My favorite scarves are the infinity scarves, like the waffle-stitch infinity scarf from J.Crew, because they provide better coverage.
5. A heavy winter jacket. The type of winter jacket you have will be the deciding factor between being frozen or staying warm. The brand of the jacket doesn’t matter, even though The North Face’s Metropolis Parka is fantastic, as long as it has good insulation.Â
