Campus Celeb: Alex Morgan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

This week’s campus celebrity goes to one of the best athletes to have come out from Cal: soccer superstar Alex Morgan.

Morgan was born in Diamonds Bar, Ca and attended Diamond Bar High School, where she was named an NSCAA All-American for playing soccer.

In 2007, Morgan was drafted to UC Berkeley where she played soccer. Morgan, a leading scorer, finished her collegiate career ranked third all-time in goals scored and points for the Golden Bears.

Morgan graduated in December of 2010, a full semester early, with a degree in Political Economy. During her time with the Golden Bears, Morgan was chosen to be part of the U.S. national team (2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and then the senior team).

Alex Morgan besides being a famous soccer player is also an Olympic gold medalist. In 2012, Morgan was named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year and was a finalist for FIFA Player of the Year.

Fun Facts: Alex teamed up with Simon & Schuster to write a middle-grade book series entitled The Kicks. Morgan also appeared in the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Currently Alex Morgan plays for Portland Thorns FC and is arguably the United States’ most popular female soccer player.
