Pack your bags; we’re going home for winter break! After making it through final papers and exams, everyone’s ready for winter break. Three weeks that will be spent recovering from the trials and tribulations of the semester. Here are five things we’re all looking forward to doing once we get back home.
1. Sleeping
The last couple weeks of the semester leaves everyone sleep-deprived and shaking from caffeine overload. Spend your first couple days of break sleeping till noon (or 3 pm). No one’s going to judge you for wanting to catch up on your sleep. Chances are you probably only slept a total of nine hours during finals week anyway. So grab your pillows and blankets – you’re officially on break. Let the napping begin!
2. Catching up with friends from back home
Plan a night with your all your friends from high school (the couple that you still like) to grab drinks or dinner. Find out what’s going on in everyone’s lives post-high school: who’s getting married, who’s studying abroad in France, and who’s gotten pregnant. It’s always fun to get the run down on all the drama that’s happened since you moved away; especially considering it doesn’t involve you anymore. Who doesn’t love bonding over gossip?
3. Marathoning TV shows
TV schedules are hard to keep up during the chaos of the semester. Winter break is the perfect time to curl up on the couch and marathon The Walking Dead. When else do you have the time to binge watch all your favorite shows. Let your mind recoup and catch up on American Horror Story, or even start a new show. It’s winter break after all, and your parents have the premium cable package you can’t afford, it’s even got HBO.
3. Eating home cooked meals
Who hasn’t missed their mom’s cooking? Four months of eating ramen and pop tarts takes a toll on even the best of us. There’s no shame in begging your mom to make all of your favorite meals. Savor all of the home cooked meals while you can, before you know it, you’ll be back at school eating frozen pizza and easy mac. Don’t forget to take tons of leftovers back to school.
4. Enjoying the holidays with our family
Winter break is a great time to take some time for yourself, but it’s still the holidays. Don’t forget to make time in between naps and Netflix to make cookies and drive around the neighborhood with your family to look at lights. It’s always fun making hot cocoa or hot apple cider and watching Miracle on 34th Street with your family. Take part in all of your family holiday traditions. You’ve missed spending quality time with your family, and it’s guaranteed they’ve missed spending some with you.
Enjoy your winter break. It’s three weeks to chill and eat all of your parents’ food, and you don’t have to worry about doing any homework. Unwind, relax, and try not to think about the next semester. What ever you do, don’t think about next semester.
