Paige Powers ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

HerCampus: So, Paige, let’s start off with you telling us here at HerCampus and our readers a little bit about yourself.

Paige Powers: I’m from Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m a sophomore, and I run cross-country and track and field.

HC: What made you choose DePauw?

PP: I went to Bishop Chatard High School, which is a small Catholic high school in Indianapolis.  So when I was making my college decision, I knew I wanted to go to a college that had the same “family-feel” that my high school did.  I fell in love with DePauw when I first stayed here during my junior year of high school, and I love how I can walk through campus and there is always someone to say “Hi” to or that I know.

HC: What has been the biggest difference between freshman year and sophomore year so far?

PP: It’s less awkward!  Sophomore year has been better because I feel like I know more people and I’m more comfortable in terms of academics, and I’ve gotten a lot closer with the friends I made freshman year.

HC: When you’re not busy with academics, what do you like to do around campus?

PP: I like to run with my friend Lilian Ehrgott, and hang out with my other cross-country teammates.  And I also like chatting with my friends and spending time with the seniors who I know are going to be graduating soon.

HC: Let’s talk about places off of campus.  What is your favorite place you’ve ever traveled, or a place you hope to travel?

PP: My favorite place I’ve ever travelled is Monte Carlo in Monaco, a country between Spain and France.  I went there after I graduated from high school, and got to see the racetrack where the auto-race called “The Monaco Grand Prix” takes place that they have every year.  I also went to the casino that is in the James Bond movies.

HC: Speaking of going off campus, do you think you’ll study abroad as a junior?

PP: I’m in the Management Fellows program here, so I’m planning on doing a semester-long internship but am unsure of where that will be at this point.  But I’m going to Costa Rica this winter for Winter Term, and I’m really excited about that.

HC: That sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun!  So, lets talk cuties.  What do you generally look for in a guy?

PP: I really love someone who can make me laugh, but also someone who is smart because I like fun conversations.  I don’t want to have someone dull, I want to keep things exciting!  I don’t like mushy things though, like flowers or chocolates [laughs]

HC:  Sounds like this guy would be a gem!
