So You’re Not a Victoria’s Secret Model…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

What comes to mind when you hear “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?” To me, it’s bedazzled lingerie, voluminous hair manes and elongated limbs. Oh, and the negative tweets that will flood your twitter feed like clockwork. You know, something along the lines of “OMG NEVER EATING AGAIN” or “guess I should start going to the gym.”

Maybe you didn’t win the genetic lottery like Karlie Kloss or Candice Swanepoel (or maybe you did, good for you.) Either way, cheer up because life’s not all that bad. In fact, life is good!

Here are 10 reasons why:

1. You can be who you want to be right now.

These are your formative years. You are in control of the rest of your life, and you can choose to be whoever you want to be. Your career, your location, your companions, it’s all in your hands.

2. You are loved.

Whether it is romantic or platonic love, someone loves you. Appreciate it. Look forward to it. Welcome it.

 3. You can see.

You’re reading this right now. Not everyone has vision, don’t take it for granted. Use your gift of sight to see amazing things and share what you see with others.

4. You’re surrounded with entertainment.

Welcome to the 21st century. See your favorite artist in concert, attend a sporting event and watch Netflix as you please.

5. Food is awesome and you can eat it all you want.

At any given time, you can eat just about any food of any origin within minutes. Think about it.

6. You can travel.

Foot, car, train, plain, boat, monorail, you name it.

7. You’re hot.

Is it your voluptuous lips? Great curves? Perfect smile? Everybody’s got that something.

8. You’re lucky.

At this exact moment, you have something someone else doesn’t. Be humble and grateful.

9. You can always improve upon yourself.

Upset about your weight? Exercise and eat right. Don’t like your hair? Dye it and cut it.  Don’t know how to say, “where’s the nearest bathroom” in Mandarin? Google it. You can always do something to improve your circumstance.

10. You’re alive.

Don’t waste time worrying about what could be, and be happy about what is.
