You asked…
How do I meet more people on campus without being awkward?
Â
And we answered. Â
Oh–we totally get you. We’ve all been in social situations where we just want to get on our phone and avoid the entire awkward scene playing out before us. Prom, anyone? We understand your dilemma. Meeting people can sometimes be awkward in college, especially since everyone is so busy with school that sometimes it’s hard to understand how anyone has time for a social life. However, I have some tips that can spare you the sweat.Â
Â
1. Join clubs or organizations that interest you. While you’re participating in something you like, you’ll be bound to meet other people with similar interests as you. Be sure to stick around after the meeting for mingling or asking questions. Definitely attend any parties or events your clubs are holding.
Â
2. Talk to people on your floor more often. We’re sure they would like to get to know you better, and that way, you’ll always have someone to study with or hang out with when you want to procrastinate!
Â
3. Get to class a few minutes early and take the initiative to talk to people in your class. You all have something in common–taking the class. It’s a great place to start a conversation, and who knows where a conversation will end up. Maybe you have a big Calc exam coming up? Start a study group with some of the kids in your class.Â
Â
4. If you want romance in your life, there’s no exact formula for finding a love interest. Though if there were, that would save a lot of time. Try going to parties with some friends. You might not meet the love of your life on the dancefloor, but you’ll definitely have fun. The points given above are great ways for meeting significant others. You never know where it’s going to happen, but be open to the possibilities. Maybe the guy who lives two doors down has a really cute friend, or maybe for your next group project you’re paired with someone adorable (and hopefully smart). Â
Â
It may seem difficult to meet new people in college, but don’t worry. Everyone is in the same boat as you. Keep smiling and try your hand at being a social butterfly. Meeting new people and making new friends will only make you happier.
