If you haven’t been to the Edinburgh Christmas Markets yet this year, I can highly reccommend them. They’ve expanded it to include not only Prince’s Street, but also St Andrews Square. And you can always use your trip to Edinburgh to do some Christmas shopping in real shops too.Â
Earlier this week, my friends and I made the treck in to the big city as a revision break/ festive outing. We were not disappointed. Edinburgh is decorated for the season with lights and wreaths and sparkly things. The trip is worth it just for a peek at all of these decorations.Â
We started out at the Christmas Markets, where we were soon seduced by the German sausage vendors and very tempted by the mulled wine stalls. We wandered through smelling, tasting, and making mental notes on presents to buy. Because it was a weekday, the markets weren’t too crowded, a bonus in my book as in previous years it’s been hard to move through the crowds.
I suggest trying either the ice skating or the giant wheel if you’re adventurous, or just people watching with a glass of hot cider. Whatever you choose to do, it’ll be a nice break from the quiet St Andrews world. Â
