Holiday Parties: Get Your Shine On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

What I love about holiday fashion is how absolutely appropriate and completely necessary it is to include anything with sequins, glitter or sparkle. I can’t think of a better way to add even more holiday cheer to everyone’s spirits than a great dress, top or skirt that shines all on its own. There is no work necessary, all you have to do is wear it and rock it!

Retailers have caught onto this holiday sparkle craze and it was almost overwhelming for me to look at all of the options not only on the internet, but even in a few stores such as Target, Fred Meyer, Forever 21 and H&M that I have perused recently. Let me tell you, there is no shortage of sequins anywhere.

Another great aspect of this is that there is just about any size, cut, color that you could imagine in these sparkly choices. If you are going for a more modest look (say a Christmas dinner out with the family) there are several dress choices with long sleeves or even short sleeves with great embellishment or patterns to choose from. If you are going for a sexier look (say for a New Year’s Eve party) there are several cap sleeved and thin strapped dress choices that accentuate all the right places and are guaranteed to boost your confidence and impress all of your friends! What better way to celebrate bringing in the New Year than with a bang!? No matter your preference or the holiday occasion, there is definitely something out there for you.

Don’t think that you are limited to just a dress either. There are amazing tops and skirts out there too! But be sure to stay warm and bring a neutral pea coat along with you for that chilly walk from the car to the restaurant you are going too!

Time to embrace your inner holiday fashionista and get your shine on! Happy shopping!

Hi Friends! My name is Sam and I'm a senior Biology major at UP. I'm also the 4th floor RA in Mehling (the best dorm ever)! Here are a few things that I love right now: tea, friends, sunshine, bows, scarves, salted caramel anything, and hand-written letters. I'm so excited to be a member of Her Campus here at UP and can't wait to share new and fun things with everyone!
I like places. I like people. I like stories; every place, and every person has a story. I want to write as many stories about that place and those people until the stories run dry. Which is...never. So I will continue to write. Please, tell me a story.
