In keeping with our positive spin on Neverending November, here’s a list of 7 collegiette’s on the Best Random Act of Kindness They’ve Seen Recently.
“I was at Loblaws on student Tuesday and a football player with two carts of groceries let an elderly lady bump in front of him in line.” – Sarah, 3rd year
“The nicest thing any stranger has ever done to me was when I was in the FSS parking lot and was struggling to find change to pay for parking. A young man walked by me and handed me $4 to cover the parking fee! I was so surprised and thankful! Chivalry is NOT dead.” – Alex, 3rd year
“I was super stressed out with everything I had to do, and I completely forgot that I had promised to make my boyfriend dinner. I told him I didn’t have any groceries and instead of being mad, he went out and got my entire grocery list for me!” – Jessica, 3rd year.
“I was out for a walk in 1st year, trying to clear my head during the December exam period when I saw a guy our age sitting in front of the Chateau Laurier, begging for money. He was obviously cold, and too ashamed to even look at the passersby as they walked by his sign. I asked if he had eaten recently, and when he said no I went into the mall and bought him a subway meal. When he actually lifted his head to say thank you it really made me realize how easily we can make others smile!” – Ariel, 3rd year
“A few weeks ago, just before a mid-term exam, I stopped at Subway right beside campus to get supper and the person in front of me bought me a cookie of my choice. Such a small act, but helped relieve some of the stress I was feeling for my exam!” – Val, 4th year
“I was having a pretty rough morning after a midterm, and a woman I didn’t know approached me by Marie Curie and told me that she loved my boots. Not the biggest deal, but it made my day!” – Emily, 2nd year
“I lost my bus pass last year, and didn’t realize until I was about to get on the bus on my way home from campus. I took out my phone to call my parents for a ride, and saw that I had a new voice mail. Turns out that a woman in Vanier had found my bus pass and called uOttawa, asking them to let me know that she had it! When I went to pick it up she refused the gift card I tried to give her as a thank-you, saying that she knew how broke students are, and that she was just happy that I got it. Such a nice lady” – Ariel, 3rd year
A little kindness can go a long way. The smallest of compliments can change someone’s day in a huge way. Pay it forward!
