5 Ways to Remember It’s Still November

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Let’s face it, Christmas is only a mere month and a half away. So, naturally everyone is planning when their annual Christmas parties are going to be held, what to get their significant other, and letting loved ones know what exactly they want this holiday season.

With all of the Christmas decorations being put up, and holiday music being played in the department stores, it’s easy to forget that it’s only November. We haven’t even celebrated Thanksgiving and we’re already planning for the Holidays. How crazy is that?

One of the most American holidays, and we’re focused on Christmas. It’s ridiculous. The whole day of Thanksgiving we are devising our plan of action for Black Friday Shopping. Get in. Get the new PS4 before that b***h. Get out.

Thanksgiving is full of food, football, family, and most importantly traditions. So here are a couple of ways to keep your traditions alive, and possibly make some new ones this Thanksgiving.

Make a Thanksgiving craft

Instead of incessantly pinning new Christmas crafts, try making those cute turkey cupcakes or modge podge some fall leaves on picture frame. Crafting always puts me in the holiday spirit, and I hope the same goes for all of you!

Play a game of Touch football before dinner

If you have a big family this is an awesome activity before thanksgiving dinner. It can be torture sitting in the house smelling all of the sweet pies, delicious turkey, and savory stuffing without even as much as a little taste. So, take the crew outside so you won’t have to hear grandma yelling every five seconds to get out of the kitchen.

Color a Turkey Hand

Remember those stupid hand tracings you made in elementary school? Make one, hang it on the fridge, and send it in the mail to mom. If you can’t be with family this holiday season because of work or school, sending this to mom will definitely make her smile. She’ll probably even pull out the terrible one you made years ago to show the vast improvement you’ve made.

Decorate for Thanksgiving instead of Christmas

Pull out that fall leaf table cloth, make a cornucopia for a center piece, or dress up as an Indian. Whatever gets you in the Thanksgiving spirit. Just avoid snowmen for the day.

Have someone teach you a family recipe

This may sound really cliché but it is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Learning how to make your aunt’s delicious pie with her guidance will ensure that you won’t screw it up. Then, once Thanksgiving comes around next year you can make it all by yourself, thus making new holiday traditions.

With these tips I hope all of you won’t forget that Thanksgiving is for celebrating thanks, not shopping. As fun as Christmas is, remember there is a holiday between Halloween and Christmas. So eat your little heart out this Thanksgiving, and don’t forget what you are thankful for.
