What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Don’t be afraid to travel alone.  You meet so many more people and have a much more immersive experience that way.”  I’ve read this sentiment on just about every travel blog I’ve ever seen. After getting to do some solo travel while I was abroad, I agree wholeheartedly.

JVG, Twinnies, Vondy, Bella, or ABP? Why?

Twinnie’s! Mostly because I live in the E-Quad.  But the staff is also super friendly and efficient, and the coffee & food are always fresh.

Describe your ideal weekend at school?

It’s warm out, so after turning in my problem set at 5pm, I hang out with friends on the bench outside our section on Friday afternoon. Duke then wins a football or basketball game, there’s a fun theme party to go to, and I have time to meet some friends for Sunday brunch.  Oh yeah, and I get to sleep!

Celebrity Crush?

Ian Somerhalder

Favorite Class or Professor at Duke?

Biomechanics, which was taught by Dr. Roger Nightingale.  We learned all about how the human body moves, what happens to it during car crashes, and how to protect it.  It was the same differential equations we had learned in math, but they were finally interesting!  We learned some frightening things, though, like what exactly happens when you don’t wear a seatbelt.

What’s on your Duke Bucket List?

I still haven’t gone to the Burt’s Bees factory, but I need to before I graduate & leave Durham!

Favorite food truck?

The Crepe truck, for sure. Their Florentine crepe, mmmmm…..

What’s a pet peeve of yours?

When people take up a whole study room or swinging bench to themselves.

Favorite candy?

Lindt truffles.  Heaven in a smooth, chocolatey sphere. :)

What’s the inspiration/story behind your Halloween costume?

I really enjoy doing intricate makeup and costumes, so Halloween is one of my favorite days (weeks??) of the year.  This year, I dressed up as a sugar skull, inspired by El Dia de Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead).  It’s a Mexican holiday for remembering your deceased friends and ancestors, and it is celebrated from October 31 to November 2.
