How to Pull Off the Hair Bow

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

We all love hair bows, but sometimes they can be a little tricky to pull off.  There are tons of fun things you could do with hair bows! In any accessory section, you will find bows of all styles—big  bows, small bows, bright bows, neutral bows, bows with polka dots, lace bows, plain bows, bows with designs…the list goes on. Here are four fool-proof ways to rock the hair bow any day!

Sock Bun

The great thing about sock buns is that you can stick a hair bow in it from just about any angle. My typical favorites are on top of the bun and angled sideways or underneath the bun. You can even play around with the sizes. Big bows are statement pieces, but small bows can add an extra pop to your look. Sock buns are a great way to tame the madness of curly hair, plus a little bit of pizazz along with it.

Half Back

This is definitely one of my go-to hair styles. I absolutely hate it when my hair is in my face. I will often clip back the front sections of my hair with bobby pins, and then stick a hair bow through the bobby bins. This style is so easy and cute! The hair bow is not visible when looking from the front, so don’t be afraid to go crazy and use a bold one! In this photo, is my favorite Peter Pan bow. This style has a cute element of surprise, and can really make a statement about who you are!

To The Side and Braid

These last two are best for smaller sized bows. On the left we see Amanda who simply clipped a section of her hair off to the side with a bow. How cute! This looks best when hair is parted to one side and the bow is on the larger side of the part. This style is great for going to class, going out to dinner, or going out on weekends.

The final style is the hair bow on the bottom of a braid as we see Kerri sporting in the photo above. I tend to wear braids to mask bad hair days. Adding a small bow to the bottom of a braid is a great way to switch up a simple hairdo. It is super easy to do!
