Get Fit: On-Campus Fitness Classes to Try

Thanksgiving break is just around the corner. You may be thinking “I’ll wait until the new year to get into shape”, but why not start now? It’s never too late to get your best body ever! If you need a break from your usual gym routine, the university offers classes during the week and on Sundays.

The classes are:

Bootcamp: Think you’re in great shape? This class will put your physical and mental strength to the test. Instructors will whip your butt, but encourage you the entire time, and make you happy you came. You’ll do all sorts of moves such as burpees, inch worms and planks. Make sure you bring a towel because you will walk out of here dripping in sweat! One thing is for sure—you will feel amazing after conquering this class. I’ve attended a few classes and felt like I was on top of the world afterwards.

Zumba: Want to get in your cardio but sick of the elliptical? Then this class is perfect for you. You’ll be able to get in your dancing practice all while listening to great music. Think you can’t dance? No worries! Everyone is so focused on getting their inner Shakira on that they won’t even notice you. So what are you waiting for? Get your inner diva out!

Pilates Sculpt: If you want to tone and strengthen those muscles, then check this class out. It’s not your usually Pilates class—it’s a little bit more intense. The moves are not hard to follow, and the instructor is always watching to make sure you have correct form! The day after trying out this class, I was sore!

Yoga: If you had a tough week and want to distress, then walk into this class. I assure that you will leave feeling distressed, stretched, and relaxed. Haven’t tried yoga before? Then no worries! The instructors will show you a modified version of a pose and when you’re comfortable, you can follow the class again.

Will Power and Grace: This class is a combination of all the ones listed above! You’ll get a great heart pumping workout as well as a nice mediation session at the end to even out your heart rate.

Totally Toned: If you’ve ever said “I don’t want to be skinny, I want to be toned!”, this is clearly the class for you.  Not only will you get your daily dose of cardio, but you’ll endure squats and pushups galore to help strengthen core muscles.  The class is fast-paced and provides and amazing full body workout, hence the words “Totally” and “Toned”! The intensity of this class depends on the instructor, but you’re likely to get your butt kicked nonetheless.
