Ryan’s Midweek Beat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.
This is the seventh installment of a brand new weekly posting right here on Her Campus UMaine! I’m a local Music Producer and DJ in the Orono area looking to share the sounds and culture of EDM with others. Twice a week you can catch me spinning some of the latest and greatest electronic tracks of today, Thursdays at 11pm on UMaine’s very own WMEB 91.9 FM and Fridays at 11pm-4am on Radio207.com. Each week I will be bringing you one of my favorite EDM tracks, varying from electro house, trap, dubstep, trip-hop, and more.

I’ll be honest up front, I’m really not that familiar with K Theory. I will say that I’m a huge fan of the original track before it was remixed though. Jay Z’s “99 Problems” hit the music scene Spring of 2004. It was released along side two lesser known but popular singles on Jay Z’s Black Album, “Change Clothes” and “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”. To this day I still hold a soft spot for mainstream hip-hop, especially Jay Z. Everything he touches turns into pure unadulterated beat laden heaven, transporting me back to the 90’s where my love for hip-hop and electronic music began. This week’s Midweek Beat encompasses both of these nostalgic feelings nicely. K Theory has done an impeccable job incorporating today’s club banger sound with the hip-hop culture of yesteryear. Prepare for a blast from the past. It’s already Wednesday and you may have a plethora of problems, but I can guarantee this track ain’t one of them. Enjoy!
