Budget Busting: Saving and Splurging on Clothes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Sometimes it’s hard to resist a good pair of shoes on sale, and it’s important to remember that it’s okay to give in once in a while! When it comes to shopping for clothes, there are times when you should spend and times when you should splurge. It all depends on the item you are buying and where you are shopping. Here are a couple of tips on how to tell the difference:

Splurge on items such as jeans, underwear, bras, and shoes. This is a rule of mine because these items don’t come cheap, and, if they do, they will probably get ruined within a matter of weeks. These are items that you want to last for a while. You wouldn’t want to be the girl walking around with a hole in her jeans.

Speaking of jeans: You can find great jeans that won’t break the bank and last a very long time at stores such as PacSun and American Eagle. I have jeans from these stores that are still going strong even after years of wearing them. Great brands for shoes include Converse, Nike, Aldo, and Steve Madden. You’ll also want to splurge on the most comfortable pair of running shoes you can find. Messing up your feet with uncomfortable shoes is not worth the couple bucks you might save.

Save money when it comes to tops and blouses. Shirts come and go, especially since they are so easy to mess up. Stores like Forever 21 have the cutest tops at cheap prices, but I wouldn’t recommend ever splurging in cheaper stores because the material isn’t very durable. Don’t forget that when you do visit the mall, you should never blow all of your money on clothes just because there are a bunch of sales going on.

Keep these tips in mind when your budget grants you a shopping day!
