Just like any other college student, I find that Netflix is an essential to life. I have a subscription and have been an avid user since the summer. I have watched several shows, spanning from Grey’s Anatomy to Justice League. Recently, however, I have found myself reunited with my childhood on Netflix. Old TV shows and movies, which many of us grew up on, can be found in the ‘Just for Kids’ section. It is really exciting to dive back into your childhood and, in case you were not aware, here are a few of these wonderful bits of nostalgia!
First, there are a myriad Disney movies on Netflix. These range from all-time favorites such as Mulan, Alice in Wonderland, and Lilo and Stitch, to less classic movies like An Extremely Goofy Movie, The Tigger Movie, and The Brave Little Toaster. These movies definitely came in handy this summer, while I was a nanny, but I found myself watching the films later, when I was alone at home. Once you start on the Disney section, it is nearly impossible to fight the urge to stop.
Also, there are many animated shows that have a distinctly nostalgic feel to them found on Netflix. Dragon Tales or Arthur anyone? Remember The Magic School Bus? Shows from our childhood are easily recognizable, because they taught us something while entertaining us for hours on end. Another favorite, Scooby-Doo can be found on Netflix. I don’t know about you, but I could never get enough of those meddling kids and their dog or solving the mysteries! Another very entertaining pooch has returned to our heart through Netflix: Courage the Cowardly Dog! Courage had the most ironic name on television—before we even knew what irony was! Sometimes the animated shows could entertain us simply because the things that happened were so improbable; they made it fun to eave reality for a little while.
I’m sure that, like me, many of you spent a good bit of your pre-teen years watching Disney Channel. Now, you can be eleven again! Netflix has The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and the original Hannah Montana! (Yes, it is acceptable to spend hours on end reliving middle school. No judgment.) These shows were a highlight of everyone’s day, and now they can be again. Not to mention the Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOMs) that are available on Netflix. The Cheetah Girls, High School Musical, Camp Rock, and their sequels are there! Netflix has given my roommate and me reason to dance and sing around our room, and now you can do the same!
Just because we are all in college and grown up does not mean that we have to grow up completely. Reminiscing on childhood can be a great time, as well as being a stress reliever. Nothing feels quite like watching Kuzco being turned into a llama in The Emperor’s New Groove with your friends or watching the Rugrats meet the Wild Thronberrys in The Rugrats Go Wild. TV was great, as a kid, and Netflix has given us the chance to go back, even if it’s only for a little while.
