Nothing adds to a great Halloween party like some spooky decorations, but sometimes a collegiette’s budget just won’t stretch to electronic dancing skeletons and life size sarcophagi. So HC Southern Miss has searched far and wide for some creepy and cute ideas on how to decorate your space for Halloween without breaking the bank.
Glowing Eyes
-Cardboard Tubes (eg. From kitchen or toilet paper)
-Glow Sticks
This is a really simple but effective way to decorate a dark room or to put outside at night, simply cut eye holes into the tubes and tape the glow sticks inside to create eyes that glow in the dark.
Bottle Monsters
-Empty Bottles
-Paint
-(Optional) Decorations such as pipe cleaners and googly eyes
If you have a few old wine bottles (although any bottle will do!) lying around after your last party give them a rinse and a dry and a few licks of paint and you could create these adorable bottle monsters. Paint them as pumpkins, ghosts, mummies, wherever your creativity takes you. You could even stick a candle in the top to create some atmospheric Halloween lighting.

Spooky Silhouettes
-Black paper/card
-Blu Tack
A super cheap and very easy way to decorate at Halloween is to cut out shapes from black card (bats are always a good shout) and stick them to walls and windows. You can keep them flat or go 3D like in the picture. Get a few friends together for the cutting and you can create dozens of them in next to no time.
Costume Decorations
-Cheap costume accessories such as witches hats and devil pitchforks.
You can usually pick these cheap plastic costume accessories for pennies in some stores, but they can actually make great decorations all over your house. We particularly love this idea of hanging hats from the ceiling!
Letter Garlands
-Colored card
-String or ribbon
If your decorating style is a bit more subtle and you want something a little cuter then these letter garlands are the perfect idea. String them up anywhere spelling out your Halloween message of choice and feel free to go as elaborate or as simplistic as you’d like.
