Five Fall Accessories That Support Breast Cancer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s finally fall here at Boston College.  How do I know?  If the brisk mornings, pumpkin flavored/scented everything, or multicolored leaves haven’t given it away already, it is DEFINITELY because of the tremendous shift to fall fashion seen around campus. But while we are all getting excited to expand our fall wardrobes, we must not forget that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month!

Lucky for us, there are plenty of accessories that are not only PERFECT for fall at BC, but also support various charities and organizations that research new cures and treatments for breast cancer as well as support the families and victims of this terrible disease.  Here are a few of my favorites!

1. Alex and Ani’s Young and Strong Charm Bangle Coming in both silver and gold, this bracelet will make the perfect addition to your Alex and Ani collection!  Plus, 20% of the profit made from sales of this bracelet will directly go to a program at a New England leading center that provides education, care, and support for women diagnosed with breast cancer as well as their families.

2. Essie’s Breast Cancer Awareness 2013 Nail Polish Even though it is fall and everyone is opting for darker nail polish colors traditional to the season, these two essie colors, Pink Works and Pink About It, are surprisingly refreshing to see in October and will definitely make your manicure stand out amongst the sea of navy, oxblood, and deep purple nails.  This year, Essie is partnering up with the Living Beyond Breast Cancer organization, which provides support and educational resources to diagnosed women and their families.

3. Under Armor Power In Pink Collection Shirts: Under Armor’s Power in Pink Collection has plenty of cute apparel options that come in many different styles and colors, so you’re sure to find the right outfit to wear during your tiring workouts at the Plex.  Through the PIP collection, Under Armor will donate a minimum of $500,000 to numerous breast cancer organizations and charities.

4. Pink Ribbon Travel Cup: Because we all need something to carry our iced pumpkin latte in during our 9 a.m. classes.  This, and many other different travel mugs and water bottles are available on the pink ribbon shop website, which donates money from product sales to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

5. North Face Women’s Aconcagua Vest: October is also the time I start looking for heavier winter clothing, so I won’t be caught off guard when Boston decides it wants to have a foot of snow on the ground the first day of November.  Luckily, North Face has teamed up with Boarding for Breast Cancer this year to create their signature vests, jackets, and sweatshirts with a tiny pink twist.

With only three weeks left in October, it’s the perfect time to go shopping at your favorite stores with your friends, splurge on some seasonal must-haves, and possibly try out the new camouflage trend that has been seen around campus.  Be sure to keep an eye open for special store promotions that support breast cancer awareness, though – you may find some one-of-a-kind pieces that are both fashionable and for a good cause.
