College Fashion Week Orlando: The Journey Begins

On October 5th, we officially kicked off College Fashion Week 2013 with an absolutely killer show in Orlando, Florida, at the University of Central Florida. Her Campus UCF, led by Nick Osler and Sarah Heyl, is one of our Pink Level chapters, meaning that amongst all of our Her Campus chapters, they are the best of the best. I met Sarah this past summer at Her Campus’s second annual National Intercollegiette Conference in NYC, and I was excited to see her again and to meet Nick at College Fashion Week Orlando!

I traveled down to Orlando with Chelsea Evans, Her Campus National’s Manager of Operations, and Taylor King, Her Campus National’s Senior Manager of Client Services. We arrived in Orlando on Thursday (the girls flew JetBlue – holllaaa) and went to Hertz to pick up our rental car. We decided that we had to kick off College Fashion Week in style (and we had TONS of stuff to pick up at Sarah’s house and take to the campus for the show), so we rented the biggest, most awesome car they had – a brand spanking new, black, chromed-out 2014 Escalade. It. Was. Baller.

See? I told you we had a lot of stuff to haul!

We were so excited to be able to work with Her Campus UCF and to thank them for being so awesome by bringing College Fashion Week to their campus. The show was absolutely incredible. First of all, we hosted the event at the Reflecting Pond at Millican Hall right in the heart of campus. The fountain in the middle of the huge pond provided the perfect backdrop for the models. We hired lighting designers and instructed them to bring every pink light they could find (obvi), and we had a great DJ from UCF’s Knightcast. We also hired a local reggae pop band, Sidereal, to play a pre-show performance and to entertain our attendees in between the fashion show scenes. And thanks to Alexia Adana, the photos of the show were fabulous!

One of the reasons why we created College Fashion Week was to highlight the unique collegiette trends in different parts of the country and to showcase the different ways that collegiettes can dress up their day-to-day activities. Because of that, our theme this year is “A Day in the Life of a Collegiette.”

The four scenes for College Fashion Week Orlando were:

You Snooze You Lose (lounge and workout wear)

(suitcase: Samsonite, shoes and pants: adidas, top: VS PINK)

Go to Class? I am Class (casual and cute class wear)

(top and shorts: Henri Girl, desk and accessories: poppin)

Soak Up the Sun (pool and beach attire)

(dress: Lilly Pulitzer, necklace: Armed & Readi)

We Can’t Stop (chic looks for a night out on the town)

(bodysuit and shorts from UsTrendy)

In addition to the fabulous fashion, Samsonite, the official luggage sponsor of College Fashion Week, was there promoting their #LifePacked sweepstakes, and Poppin, the official dorm and office accessories sponsor of College Fashion Week, was there running a “best dressed desk” contest encouraging students to #playdressup. neuro, the official beverage sponsor of College Fashion Week, provided neuro SONIC that kept everyone energized throughout the event!

Most of the clothes for College Fashion Week Orlando were from UsTrendy with select items from Henri Girl, OUTSPOKKEN, Lilly Pulitzer, Category 5 Boat Shoes and Armed & Readi.
