To make this Fall season even more enjoyable, we suggest gathering up your favorite friends/family and heading out to a seasonal apple orchard to pick apples before they’re all gone! With cooler weather moving in, you’re just in the knick of time to go apple picking. The apple orchards listed below have individual websites with all the information you’ll need including the types of apples for your connoisseur taste! See which orchard strikes your fancy, grab your cutest scarf, and have fun walking through the orchards in search of the perfect apple! 

  • Apples on Oak is an orchard located in Lockport, IL. Their fun filled activities include apple picking with multiple apple choices based on your needs. Their website says: “All the late apples on the farm are ripe.  Baking apples with tart aromatic qualities such as Liberty and Gold Rush.  On the sweeter side we are offering three varieties of Fuji and Jonagold.” So head on out and pick the sweetest looking apples for a great apple strudel or apple pie!   • Kuipers Family Farm is a family pumpkin patch comprised of 71 acres open to the public in hopes they’ll have fun and create memories while enjoying the fall setting. Kuipers is located in Maple Park, IL with apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, hayrides, a haunted forest, and more! They even offer coupons and deals to save a couple extra dollars.   • Jonamac Orchard is a 20 acre apple orchard in Malta, IL with over 30 different kinds of seasonal apples available for picking. Whether for baking apple goodies or eating with peanut butter, they have an apple for you. If you’re not exactly the baking type, check our their Country Store that has fresh baked apple donuts, apple breads, apple pies, caramel apples, and even apple pizzas!   • Honey Hill Orchard is a family-owned and operated apple orchard in Waterman, IL with over 2,100 apple trees! Besides picking apples, the farm also offers pumpkin picking and raspberry picking. Recipes for their goodies are located on their website for all to use. Be sure to check out their website for more information because on specific weekends they offer horse-drawn carriage rides through the apple orchard, but not for much longer! Picking apples is fun for all who partake. Although these orchards aren’t right outside of the city, renting a Zipcar is a viable option to enjoy a change of scenery and enjoy the cool, Fall weather.
