In the year 2000, everyone had just survived the Y2K prophecy that predicted the end of the world. Girl groups like Destiny’s Child and boy bands like *NSYNC were dominating the music charts. Beliebers didn’t exist, and no one knew what twerking was. Only one thing was certain in 2000: young girls around the world wanted to be invited to Aaron’s Party.
Aaron Carter stole the hearts of girls everywhere with his spiky hair and pop hits. After performing as the lead singer for group Dead End, Aaron left the group to pursue a solo career. Following in big brother and Backstreet Boy Nick Carter’s footsteps, he focused on pop music and landed opening gigs for major acts like Britney Spears. With a debut album in 1998, Aaron showed he was ready for pop stardom. But it was his 2000 album “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and single of the same name that put his face on the walls of tweens and teens alike.
In the music video for “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” a baby-faced Aaron throws a massive party while his parents are out. When you’re a 12-year-old fan, it didn’t matter that Aaron had a synchronized dance planned or that his parents left a child at home alone. All that mattered was throwing that album into your Walkman and singing at the top of your lungs. But the video leaves many things unexplained. Now that Aaron’s party happened more than a decade ago, it’s time we got some answers to the mysteries of the party of the year.
1. Where did his parents go?
Aaron sings of all the possible ways to get his parents out of the house. Sending them to a movie is apparently inadequate for the level of partying he hopes to host that night. Option two is sending them to see Aunt Jo. Any other kid suggesting that his/her parents go visit a family member would be forced to go with them and endure the cheek kisses and bear hugs. But not Aaron Carter. He’s so cool that his parents leave him (completely unattended) on a Friday night. He was truly a hero for the rebellious tweens of the world.
2. Were the open house flyers a prank?
During the party, Aaron encounters two guys he doesn’t know. After calmly asking them to leave, they explain they saw a flyer for an open house at Aaron’s address. “Law and Order: SVU” has been around for too long for Aaron not to know about stranger danger. Luckily, nothing happened to the adorable pop prince, but it easily could have thanks to someone who put up prank flyers. When you throw the party of the year, you’re bound to have haters.
3. What about the kid who spilled juice on his mom’s new cushion?
We’ve all been there. A drop of nail polish falls on mom’s newly washed carpet. A glass of grape juice forever ruins a friend’s fancy white couch. When a kid spills juice on his mom’s new cushion, Aaron seems upset. But the second a girl walks in the room, he’s forgotten all about it. On behalf of his mom, did the cushion ever get cleaned? Did the kid ever take responsibility? The world needs to know.
4. Who is the “honey over there” Aaron wants to meet?
For the sake of “Lizzie McGuire” fans, let’s assume it’s Hilary Duff. Aaron broke the hearts of tweens everywhere when he kissed Lizzie under the mistletoe after performing “I Want Candy” on the Christmas episode. Rumors flew that Aaron and Hilary were together, which made them the teenybopper equivalent of Brangelina in the early 2000s. Other theories could include girls at his school or friends in the neighborhood. Either way, that honey made a lot of girls jealous.
5. Did he actually get grounded?
Aaron seemed to recover from his party quite well. He mentions being grounded once his parents crashed the fun, but Aaron is now doing better than ever (well, after several stints in rehab the only way is up). Currently on his tour deemed “The After Party,” Aaron is reconnecting with fans across the nation. Auburn collegiettes can catch his show at Bourbon Street Bar on Wednesday October 9. Tickets can be purchased at Bourbon’s site.
Girls of the Plains, rejoice. You’re finally invited to Aaron’s party!
