You may have your favorite spa or hair salon back home, but moving up to Gainesville for college means having to find a new “salon away from home.” I asked some people what their favorite local places were and these are a few they said to try!

Mode Salon West: “I love Mode Salon West because they really try to promote the experience with super friendly staff and really great hair products.” – Michelle Provenzano, telecommunications junior.

Avant Garde: “It was my first massage experience, and the woman who did mine explained everything to me and made it such a relaxing experience. They usually run a Groupon too every now and then for a 60-minute massage.” – Emily Gonzalez, political science senior.

Salon 5402: “They’re all really cool and easy to talk to, and they know exactly what to do when you ask for a certain style. A lot of places will mess up even if you give them a picture of what you want, but Salon 5402 gets it right every time.” – Blythe Ferguson, pre-dental freshman.

Champagne Salon: “I like Champagne Salon because they understand a women’s eyebrow and are very good at threading them! It’s right by campus, so I am able to walk there whenever, and it’s very good pricing.” – Tatiana Blanco, advertising sophomore.

Beach Break: “I’m obsessed with Beach Break because of the atmosphere. Everyone is so professional, and they become your friend. I always go to Emily, and she knows my whole life story; it’s like a therapy session when I go there!” – Jen Korngold, psychology junior.

It sounds like Gainesville has some hidden gems! I urge you to try a few of these places and find a favorite for yourself!

Hi, my name is Kelli Eichorn. This spring I am a fourth year Telecommunications major, specializing in Media and Society and minoring in Anthropology. I love reading and writing, and have a strong passion for both print and broadcast journalism, as well as social media and it's influence on society. My dream is to one day write for a major fashion magazine. This is my fourth semester being involved with Her Campus and I am so excited to be serving as a blogger for GatorGlam! GatorGlam is a blog about beauty, makeup, and skin care for the "Florida" girl. Some of my favorite things include spending time with my sorority sisters, going to the beach, naps, animals, and listening to music.
