What’s New Under the Lofts?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Ever wonder about the new businesses under the Lofts at 308? Located across from Mizzou’s Journalism School, these businesses are in a prime location for college student traffic. To keep you updated on the increased amount of delicious food, beverage, and shopping opportunities, Her Campus Mizzou has compiled a guide to the new businesses located under the Lofts.

Subway:

A new Subway location has opened near the Mizzou campus. Though this one is similar to the other downtown location, bread selection is limited to Italian, 9-Grain Wheat, Honey Oat, Italian Herbs & Cheese, and flatbread. Hours: Sunday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-11 p.m., Friday-Saturday 9 a.m.-2 a.m.

Varsity Nails:

Though Varsity Nails has a location on Elm Street, general manager Jacklyn Kahl says it didn’t leave room to grow. Expansion to a nearby location ensured that none of their regular customers were turned away. Varsity Nails offers manicures, pedicures, and salon and waxing services. You can book an appointment online or purchase a gift certificate.

Hours: Monday-Tuesday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Blenders:

Blenders involves customers in promoting local and regional lifestyles through community events, as well as a variety of shirts, tumblers and Frisbees. After opening in early August, Blenders reached out to the community by holding a beverage-naming contest for customers. As a result, its menu includes flavorful smoothie arrangements like Dazed and Confused (orange, strawberry, pineapple, blackberry, raspberry), Napoleon (apple, vanilla, strawberry, pear, cocoa powder) and Broken Spoke (raspberry, orange, strawberry, banana). As of September 23, Blenders also offers hot drinks and samba bowls. Catering, nutritional information, and online ordering options are available on their website.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Tigers Credit Union:

Having a Tigers Credit Union location under the lofts means that even after hours you can easily access an ATM. This is a prime location for college students because it’s in the downtown area near shops, restaurants and bars.

Hours: Monday-Tuesday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Fazoli’s:

Fairly priced Italian food near campus – who could pass that up? Don’t be scared away by their tomato mascot. I personally recommend the melt-in-your-mouth breadsticks. Fazoli’s offers dine-in as well as carry out and catering options.

Hours: Sunday-Thursday 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday- Saturday 10: 30 a.m.-11 p.m.

Thai Express:

Thai Express is a Southeast Asian cuisine chain that, according to Inside Columbia Magazine, is the largest Thai food chain in the world. It is currently under construction.

International Tap House (iTap):

International Tap House, better known as iTap by its patrons, is a St. Louis-based bar known for its vast beer selection. In its fourth location, iTap offers a selection of around 480 beers from 25 different countries. Although this establishment doesn’t serve food, customers are invited to bring their own from surrounding establishments. Make sure to pay attention to weekly specials displayed on the sidewalk chalkboard!

Hours: Monday-Thursday 3 p.m.-1 a.m., Friday 1 p.m.-1 a.m., Saturday 11 a.m.-12 a.m., Sunday 12 p.m.-1 a.m.

Anything else you need to know about? Possibly!

A small Wal-Mart location is scheduled to move into the Lofts, as well! According to Jessica Troike of KRCG 13, it would offer many of the same supplies a superstore has, including a full-service pharmacy, would open early next year.

Office space under the Lofts is also being leased. According to developer Travis McGee, Service Noodle plans to lease space for its headquarters.

Additionally, there have been rumors that Jimmy John’s will join other businesses in this prime location. Last April, franchise owner Mike Monahan told Vox Magazine that a new ground level opening will occur in late summer 2013. Is this still a possibility? Keep your eyes open!
