Remember those TV shows that we grew up with? I remember spending my weekends curled up in my bed, watching Disney and Nickelodeon shows. In light of Miley Cyrus’s infamous performance at the VMAs and Zac Efron’s admission to cocaine abuse, it’s interesting to see where some of our favorite childhood actors are now.
1.    Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana
Long before her infamous twerking stunt, short haircut, less-is-more fashion taste, and sassy attitude, Miley Cyrus was known as the bubbly girl that wore cute outfits on Hannah Montana. So what happened to her kid-friendly image? In a recent interview, she responded, “It’s called puberty.” I think we’ve all seen enough pictures to know that Miley has gone through a huge transformation from her Disney years.
2.    Amanda Bynes, The Amanda Show
Remember laughing hysterically while watching the Amanda Show? Well, there’s nothing too funny about the situation Amanda is in now. People believed that she would be the rare child star to make the transition into adulthood smoothly. But after her role in Easy A in 2010, she began her tumble downhill. First, she was charged with a DUI. This was followed by a series of hit and runs, pictures of her driving while smoking what was most likely marijuana, and a radical makeover of her hair and style witnessed by her Twitter followers. She is currently in rehab, being treated for mental instability.
3.    Lindsay Lohan, The Parent Trap
We’re all aware of the downfall of Lindsay’s cute days as the twins we adored in the classic movie, The Parent Trap. Her career is in shambles now after several issues with directors and actors. She also was sentenced to jail time, addicted to prescription pills, and appeared in court with the F-word written on one of her nails. However, her life may be getting back on track! In a recent interview with Oprah, she says that she’ll be busy working on projects and possibly even a reality TV show! Â
4.    Demi Lovato, Camp Rock
Demi became famous after her role in Camp Rock. She was a new, fresh face and rose to popularity after landing her own TV show. However, in May 2010 after breaking up with Joe Jonas, she entered into a downward spiral. Substance abuse and emotional challenges were some of the reasons she entered into rehab. Now, she is enjoying the glories of immense success from her singing career! Her song, “Heart Attack,” which we’ve heard so many times on the radio, reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart!
5.    Zac Efron, High School Musical
After jump-starting his career in the famous High School Musical productions, he pursued several non-Disney projects, including 17 Again and The Lucky One. Due to his post-Disney success, it caught his fans off-guard when it was revealed that he had entered rehab twice for cocaine addiction. After a relaxing trip to Peru with his father, Zac seems likes he’s doing well!

6.    Dylan and Cole Sprouse, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
The mischievous twins began their Disney career when they were 13 years old! In 2007, they were two of the wealthiest children alive and were earning $40,000 per episode in 2010. It was quite a surprise when they left Disney, but they are currently focusing on schoolwork at NYU! They are enrolled in the Gallatin school, which allows students to plan their own curriculum! While Cole is studying the humanities and archaeology, Dylan is interested in video game design. Sounds like their living a normal, trouble-free life!
7.    Josh Peck, Drake and Josh
After his frequent appearances on The Amanda Show, Josh starred in his own show, Drake and Josh. The nerdy younger brother character we remember seeing on the show has definitely grown up from his Nickelodeon days! Can I just say that he has aged very well?
8.    Hilary Duff, Lizzie McGuire
If you’re like me and were born in the 90s, you would probably agree that Lizzie McGuire defined our childhoods! Her boy troubles and other typical teenage problems were the reasons why the show was so appealing. Now, at the age of 26, she is happily married and has a 1-year-old son. Can you believe she’s a mom?
9.    Shia LaBeouf, Even Stevens
After playing the silly and mischievous teenager on Even Stevens, Shia left Disney and found a lot of success after being cast in movies like Holes, Disturbia, and Transformers.
10. Joseph Gordon Levitt, Angels in the Outfield
Wait, what? He was a Disney star? Yes, his first major acting role was in Disney’s Angels in the Outfield. Can you believe it? Because I can’t!Â
