Kiss & Tell: Inexpensive and Unique Date Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Ā

In about a month and a half (maybe even less), the temperature is going to drop to unspeakable lows and no one will want to leave the comfort of their toasty homes. Take advantage of the beautiful fall weather while you still can, and go out and do something! Burlington and the surrounding areas have so much to offer, so go on an adventure. Whether youā€™re making plans with a significant other, or just a romantic night with yourself, here are some inexpensive and unique date ideas:

  • Check out Half Lounge Comedy Night every Thursday night! The show is from 8 to 9:15pm and then from 9:25 to 10:30pm it turns into open mic. Good news? Itā€™s free!
  • Feeling a little artsy? Explore UVMā€™s Fleming Museum exhibits, then grab a coffee and flip through some books at the museum store. Admission is free for all UVM students.

  • Ok, so going to the movies isnā€™t very ā€˜uniqueā€™, but going for free? Sign me up. UPB and IRA have generously sponsored this awesome program, Cats at the Movies, which lets you pick up free movie tickets to Burlingtonā€™s Roxy Cinema. The catch? You have to pick it up at 8am every Monday at the Student Life office in the Davis Center.

  • Want a more low-key night? Step outside of Burlington and stargaze at Spear Streetā€™s Overlook Park. Ā This beautiful 1.7 acre park has some of the best views of Lake Champlainā€¦ and of course, itā€™s free!

  • More into the music scene? Radio Bean, located in downtown Burlington, has some great live music and a fun atmosphere. It depends on what the show is, but the cover is usually free–Ā sometimes free until a certain time, then cover could be anywhere from $3 to $5. Still, not a bad deal!

  • Want to be more in touch with nature? Take a stroll along the Shelburne Farms walking trails, then hit up the snack cart at the historic Farm Barn. Admission is $8.

  • Feeling like you need to spice things up? Then I dare you to go on a Queen City Ghostwalk tour. Itā€™s the perfect time of year to hear all about Burlingtonā€™s spooky haunts. Tickets are $14.

  • While most Flynn theatre shows can be expensive, the FlynnSpace performances tend to be more budget-friendly with the student discounts. They have everything from music to dance, and story telling to small theatre productions. Thereā€™s something for everyone! Ticket prices vary but most are around $25.

You donā€™t need to break the bank in order to have fun around here. So grab your boyfriend, girlfriend, roommate, or take a mental health day for yourself, and go embrace a beautiful day. For more ideas on some fun dates, check out our article on top 10 favorite fall activities!
