Fashion from the 2013 Emmy Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Did you miss the Emmy’s because you were too busy studying? Fear not! Here is a recap of what you missed from this year’s Red Carpet. Be prepared for bold colors, lacey gowns, and feminine silhouettes.

Starting out the night was Claire Danes, who sported an ivory toned, lace Armani Prive dress. The lace skirt itself was stunning, but maybe the top would be more flattering on her décolletage if she pulled it up by a few inches. The placement of the bodice makes her thin frame look awkward rather than flattering.

Next was Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery. Swathed in Prada, her dress featured a red halter-top with a deep maroon pleated skirt. The more I look at it, the more I like the simple but elegant form. Some think the skirt made her petite frame look swamped in fabric, but I think the waistline combined with the backless halter-top shows off her figure just fine. With a red embroidered clutch and minimal jewelry, Dockery made the bold colors of her ensemble look fresh.

Sofia Vergara definitely didn’t disappoint in her classic red Vera Wang mermaid dress that showed off her voluptuous silhouette. Vergara usually sports the same style of dress for her red carpet appearances, but instead of being boring, she works it every single time, showing off her curves rather than hiding them. She’s a great example of how to wear the dress, not let the dress wear you.

When Kate Mara stepped out in this gorgeous dress by J. Mendel, it was a true fashion moment of the night. Mara was a vision in white, looking like she could have just stepped off a runway at New York Fashion Week.

Allison Williams wore a simple but brilliantly cobalt blue Ralph Lauren gown. Pairing the dress with gold cuffs and leaving her hair down in loose curls, Williams looked effortlessly beautiful walking down the carpet. It’s a bit more boring than her usual look, but definitely not a fashion fail.

Going along with this cobalt blue trend, Tina Fey looked incredible in her Narciso Rodriguez halter gown. This dress was simple, sexy, and flattering. I never realized how curvy Tine Fey was, but I definitely strive to have her figure one day.

Decked in embroidered velvet, Connie Britton’s Naeem Khan gown seemed a little bit out of season. Usually, I can’t help but love a velvet gown, but this dress seems to closely resemble a dusty old curtain; not quite the right antique quality you want in a dress.

Cat Deely came out looking sleek and sexy in her black Armani cut out dress. With no back to the dress and strategically placed cutouts, there’s nothing boring about this black number. From some angles, the cut of the dress around the hips looks a bit awkward, but ultimately I’ve decided to call it ‘high fashion’. What are your thoughts?
