It is the one sartorical cliché we all hope to avoid throughout University; turning up to lectures in last night’s makeup, sweats and Uggs. Or, even worse, a onesie! However, with the right combination of comfort and style, it is possible to turn up to 9am lectures looking fresh, even if you don’t feel it. Get inspired with our Lecture Lookbook, and make sure you are prepared for your University timetable with some practical but chic accessories.
Lecture Look #1 Running Late
Ensure you get a first for fashion with these fall back pieces which aren’t difficult to style at the last minute. These Topshop cut out boots (£90) allow you to be on-trend without sacrificing comfort (an important factor if running late!), and a graphic tee is easy to pair with leggings, jeans or a high waisted skirt. Investing in a great coat will also have huge returns; a classic waxed jacket can give some Exeter countryside charm to any outfit such as this Topshop number which is £60. Throw your things in this sleek Zara monochrome tote (£52) and you are good to go.
Lecture Look #2 Geek Chic
HCX loves a spot of geek chic, and there’s nothing wrong with bringing out your inner nerd, especially in a lecture! Channel your inner geek in a smart button down shirt, flared skirt and a roomy satchel. You can instantly smarten up any outfit with a pair of versatile heeled black boots (£42, ASOS) which are chic for both lectures and going out! Also, a pair of glasses such as these tortoiseshell Raybans will give you an instant student vibe. We can already tell that our favourite accessory of the season is going to be the bobble hat; this berry knit from ASOS (£12) is perfect for autumn and will make you the envy of your classmates.

Lecture Look #3 Daring Denim
Jeans are the ultimate staple for heading on to campus, but how to update the look? Start with the jeans themselves in an unusual dip dye (these are £80 from The Outnet), and pair with some eye catching accessories, of course! A trilby hat will hide any bad hair day, and this two-tone chain from Topshop (£28) is perfect for updating the classic Breton tee. With winter chill setting in, you can keep warm with a statement jacket such as this sheepskin number from Zara. Don’t forget that the easiest way to look fresh when heading on to campus can sometimes simply be a slick of BB cream to retain that summer glow (Maybelline, £7.99).
Must-Have Accessories
Your lecture look wouldn’t be complete without some key accessories that are vital for a day on campus. It’s important to keep your laptop, or iPad safe, so protect them in style with this chic sleeve from Michael Kors (£85), this stunning floral Ted Baker case (£42), or a funky iPhone case (£6, Paperchase). Take a step towards mature adulthood with this leather Filofax Finsbury pocket organizer (£27) available from WH Smiths. Back packs are a huge trend for Autumn, and this ASOS leather vintage style back pack gives us style envy! Another useful student accessory is this tan satchel, which is well worth the £130 from The Cambridge Satchel Company as it will last you throughout your time at Exeter. Finally, for a hardcore studying session, these white headphones from Sony (a bargain for £10.00) will get you in the zone, whilst this patterned notebook which is £6 from Paperchase is glossy and useful for lecture notes.
