Students at Maryland are excited to have returned to College Park, but it is still bittersweet that summer is coming to an end. Summer is a four month span of ample free time to do whatever you want and go away during the weekends, with a little bit of work thrown in.
The end of August arrives before we know it, bringing with it the beginning of classes and schoolwork. However, whether or not it’s still one of those few months of bliss, there are many ways to feel like summer hasn’t quite come to a close.
Senior dietetics major, Haley Stein, is from right outside Boston and loves how much longer it seems like summer here than it does at home. One of the major positives about going to school down South is that it feels like summer for a lot longer than it would back in New York, Connecticut, Chicago, or many of the other places people travel from to come to Maryland. This allows the students on campus to spend the first few weeks of freedom before workloads get too heavy lounging outside and enjoying the last rays of summer.
The pool at the ERC on North campus is a great place to relax and lounge by the pool to forget that summer has finally come to an end.
Another way to pretend that everyone’s favorite season has yet to end is by dressing the part. There are a variety of ways to intertwine your summer wardrobe into your school clothes and the beginnings of your fall outfits. By pairing your favorite sundresses with cute boots or an oversized sweater, it’s easier to pretend that fall hasn’t quite yet arrived and summer is still upon us.

Alie Rothman, senior marketing major, loves the idea of being able to integrate her summer clothes into her fall wardrobe at the beginning of the school year.
“It’s great being back at school, but having to do work again isn’t something to look forward to. Wearing my favorite summer wardrobe items even as the weather gets cooler is a great way to act like summer is still here.”
Although Maryland is so close to DC, very few people actually take day trips there to walk around the beautiful city, marvel at the nation’s most famous monuments and just enjoy the day. This is a great way to replicate those weekend getaways you take during the summer to the beach and get away from the thought of classes and work that await you back on campus.
“I love coming back to school because I pretend that summer is lasting for just a little while longer once I’m back here. I can spend more time outside getting some color and just pretend that school hasn’t even started yet,” said Stein.
The time is now to enjoy those last few days of summertime weather.Â
