Collegiettes, once in a blue moon we can all be guilty of arriving somewhere looking a little (or a lot) less than presentable. There are some days when rolling out of bed might seem like the only option, and on those days, fashion suffers. But bad outfits take no prisoners, and can happen to even the best of us on even a normal day.
HerCampus has your back. We’re here to look out for the wardrobe wellbeing of Wake Forest. That’s why we’re installing a new HC news series, “What Not to Wear.” Our first edition? The classroom.
- Crop Tops
Wearing a crop top and showing stomach is never, ever, appropriate in the classroom. And it doesn’t make it okay if it’s a long sleeve crop, either. It doesn’t even make it okay if it’s a turtleneck crop. Unless you’re going to a darty, these shouldn’t be on in the daytime. Save the belly-baring tees for a night out on the town.Â
- Tight “Going Out” Skirts
Skintight is certainly not right for the classroom. No matter what kind of sweater or boots you attempt to pair with it, if you’ve worn the skirt out, you probably shouldn’t be wearing it to class. Plus tight skirts are super uncomfortable to sit in all day. Do yourself a favor and pass this item while skimming your closet in the morning. Also, tight skirt = bigger risk of flashing something no one wants to see, just sayin’.
- Tight Dresses
Follow the same rule for dresses when it comes to skirts. Tight dresses hug the boobs and the booty, making them totally unsuitable for daytime. I’m tired of seeing girls struggling to tug their dresses down as they walk to class!
- Anything with a Stiletto Heel
Sky-high stilettos scream sex appeal. 10 a.m. Cognitive Psychology does not. Save the stilettos for a date function and instead rock sneakers, flats, flip-flops, wedges, boots…pretty much anything instead. Your feet will thank you.
- Spandex
Maybe I’m just not as ballsy as some collegiettes, but I can barely fathom wearing spandex to the gym, let alone to class. If you wear spandex booty shorts to class, wear them BENEATH something else. Even if your body is rockin’, it’s no excuse to basically wear underwear to class.
I’m all about freedom of expression, and love the variety of personal styles at Wake. The reason these items are on the list is because I’ve seen collegiettes wearing them to class. Remember, there’s a time and place for every outfit…the classroom is neither.Â
